Golf: D+D Real Czech Masters
Venue: Albatross Golf Resort, Scotland.
Dates: 19th – 22nd August 2021
The European Tour rolls back onto the continent for the Real Czech Masters. The event has been a feature across European golf since 2014 and makes a welcome return to the calendar, having been cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. Previous winners of the event include former Ryder Cup players Thomas Pieters and Jamie Donaldson, as well as some lesser known fringe players such as Andrea Pavan and Paul Peterson – suggesting the field could once again be very open at the Albatross Golf Resort this weekend.
The European Tour continues following a busy period of Olympic and major tournament golf, and this promises to be an excellent week in the Czech Republic: –
Englishman Sam Horsfield has been a stand out performer on the European Tour throughout the past couple of seasons and he is the justified favourite in an open field here.
Former Masters champion Danny Willett has lacked consistency in recent times but when is game is all singing, all dancing, there are very few people in world golf that can live with him.
New Zealander Ryan Fox is an elite level performer on the European Tour, and he will be doing all he can to get into the winners enclosure come Sunday afternoon.
South African George Coetzee is an assured performer on the European Tour and whilst he hasn’t been able to string any consistency together of late, but he is a classy operator on his day.
German Marcel Siem is one of the classy ball strikers around and he will be out to mix it with the big guns from the off in the Czech Republic.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
Cult hero Rory Sabbatini arrives at this event fresh off the back of his Olympic silver medal and he could be one to look out for from the very start here at the Albatross Golf Club.
Young Chilean Hugo Leon looks to have a very bright future ahead of him on the European Tour and his clean ball striking makes him a candidate to lead from the off in the Czech Republic this week.
Former world number one Henrik Stenson is still one of the very best in the business on his day and he could end up leading from the off if he finds form when It matters.
Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in the Czech Republic, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:-
European Tour leader Dean Burmester has enjoyed a stellar season so far and with confidence up, he looks to be a shoe in for a top 5 finish.
Scot Callum Shinkwin is a superb ball striker and with success on the European Tour already this season, he could be in the mix for a top 5 finish.
European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington still appears to have plenty of life in the tank and he will be looking for serious ranking points and prize money this week.
