Katie Taylor will be the second biggest attraction taking to the ring of Madison Square Garden, as she looks to eclipse the gold that she achieved in the 2012 London Games.
Taylor will be the star attraction of the undercard for the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr event, in which the Brit is the heavy 0.03 favourite with BetXChange.
The Irish star will be looking to become the undisputed lightweight champion of the world as she takes on Delfine Persoon. If the form book is anything to go by, it should be a routine win for the Olympic winner. She improved her professional record to 13-0 last time out with a dominant win over Rose Volante; in which she added the WBO lightweight title to her IBF and WBA belts.
But the chance to add the final title is something that Taylor has expressed as her main desire. Speaking to the press ahead of the fight, she said: “To be fighting for the undisputed championship at Madison Square Garden is absolutely phenomenal really. It is a dream come true.”
Taylor is no stranger to making history after she became the first ever Olympic female lightweight champion in 2012 by beating Sofya Ochigava. However, victory over Persoon would eclipse that feat; especially when you consider that Taylor’s opponent has not tasted defeat since 2010.
Meanwhile, she is the clear favourite with BetXChange to beat Persoon and achieve her goal by unifying the division.
