Betting folk are lining up this year to back Louis Oosthuizen as this years Open Champion. Why? There are a few reasons this humble man from Mossel Bay is the betting favourite:

  1. This is the 29th time that The Open is being held at St Andrews in Scotland, the last time the Championship was held on this course was in 2010, the year Louis Oosthuizen won in an astonishing seven-stroke victory over Lee Westwood.
  2. Since 2010, Louis has five more major titles under his belt, the Africa Open 2011 and 2012, the Maybank Malaysian Open 2012 and the Volvo Golf Champions in 2013 and 2014, thus proving that he is on form and fighting fit.
  3. Louis has moved back into the top 30 of the Official World Golf Ranking, boosting his confidence.
  4. Louis Oosthuizen is the top South African Player in the world rankings after the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic and the European Tour’s French Open.
  5. Oosthuizen grew up and learnt to play Golf in Mossel Bay, one of the windiest cities in the world. Similar to St Andrews he is used to playing in turbulent weather conditions.
  6. His Big Match Temperament – in 2010 Louis missed a 15-foot putt for par on the eighth green and his lead over Paul Casey dropped to three strokes from five. Keeping his wits about him the 27-year-old Oosthuizen then cruised to a round of 1-under-par 71 and a seven-stroke victory over Westwood (70) to win his first major championship. Journalists and experts attest this to his demeanour, his swing tempo and his resilience.
  7. Although Rory McIlroy 4/1 and Jordan Spieth 6/1 are currently high up on the betting list as favourites, Louis Oosthuizen ties in at 25/1 with Day, Kaymer, Mickelson and Garcia.*
