Golf: Zurich Classic of New Orleans

One of the most unique events on the PGA Tour gets underway at TPC Louisiana as the pairs style at the Zurich Classic takes centre stage. The tournament converted from a regular stroke play event to a pairs competition back in 2017 and with some huge names and enticing pairings, it should be a superb weekend of golf. First being played back in 2936, the New Orleans Classic has long been a key event on the PGA Tour and with TPC Louisiana often providing the perfect backdrop, it should be a memorable event.
Plenty of the biggest names on the PGA Tour feature here in Louisiana and they will be keen to get their hands on some silverware here:-
Defending champions Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer appear to have an excellent rapport and with favourable conditions to boot, they could be tough to stop this weekend.
Two of the best ball strikers in the business team up with Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay and if they hit form here in Louisiana, they could be a potent partnership.
Australian duo Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman have both enjoyed success at this event in the past and together, they could be a formidable duo should they start firing.
Two of the youngest and hottest properties in golf play together in Matthew Wolff and Collin Morikawa and it is arguably the most exciting partnership in the competition.
With Sam Burns playing in his home state and Billy Horschel a two-time winner at this event, they could be the dark horses in a congested field this week..
1st Round Leader
The whole field here in Louisiana will believe they can get off to a strong start and if they do so they could set themselves up for the week ahead:
English pairing Danny Willett and Tyrrell Hatton have both shown glimpses of their best form this season and they could get off to a flyer here this week.
Two of the most consistent performers on the PGA Tour team up in Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd and they could well sneak under the radar in a strong field this week.

With so many quality pairings assembled here at TPC Louisiana, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday afternoon:-
Both Tony Finau and Cameron Champ have featured heavily on Sunday afternoons on the PGA Tour this season and as a pairing, they could well be in the mix again here.
Two European veterans team up in the form of Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson and whilst they haven’t any real form to speak of, they can always turn it on when it matters.
