Durban’s Super Giants VS Pretoria Capitals Odds:
History
These two teams will need a strong second halves of the season to make the playoffs. There is a clear split between the Paarl Royals in third on the log with 13 points and Durban’s Super GIants in fourth on eight points.
The Super Giants have those eight points from just one win in their five games played to date. This is a side that has been unlucky, with two of their five games so far being called off due to poor weather. Just one win in those games, especially with a bonus point, would see them challenging the top three spots.
The Pretoria Capitals sit on 7 points from 5 games, one place below the Super Giants. They also have a single win, but they have three defeats and one no result. The most surprising stat of the season so far is that even though the Capitals have a solitary win, they did enough in that match with their run rate to earn a bonus point.
This is actually the repeat fixture from Match 12, which was scheduled for last Saturday. That match in Centurian was abandoned without a single over being bowled due to rain, after it had initially been reduced to 16 overs per side.
Durban’s Super Giants
There is a suspicion that this team is better than its record suggests. They won their opener against MI Cape Town, and they looked well on their way to a second win over Cape Town in Match 4 before rain denied the Super Giants. They were 37 without loss after just four overs when the covers came out.
Their most recent completed match was a heartbreaker. The Super Giants lost to the Joburg Super Kings in the Super Over after both teams scored 205 runs in their innings.
Pretoria Capitals
The Capitals’ only win was an 85-run demolition job on MI Cape Town, when they went for 220 runs in their 20 overs.
Their last completed match was a humiliation at the hands of Sunrisers Eastern Cape on Monday. Srambling to 176 for seven on the back of 52 from Connoe Esterhuizen, the Capitals failed to take a wicket during the Sunrisers’ chase.
Best Bets
The Super Giants are the pick here. If any team on the bottom half of the log is going to make a run, it will be the Durban squad. They should have way too much for the Capitals and are more than worth a punt at 3/5.
Noor Ahmad has been good for the Super Giants. He was 3 for 12 from four overs last time out, and at 39/10 is worth a look as the best bowler.
Sticking with the Super Giants, who we think will win, means that Heinrich Klassen gets the nod as the potential top bat. He is 21/2 to be that player, and given his ability to thrash the ball out of the ground, I like his chances of a quickfire big total.
