After almost three months of inactivity, the DStv Premiership is back and action resumes with a mouthwatering clash between defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu, who finished second last season, at Loftus.

Most of the clubs have been very bust on the transfer market bolstering their squads with new players and others also recruiting new coaches like Chippa United who have roped on Gavin Hunt after he was fired by Kaizer Chiefs.

The transfer window only closes at the end of the month but some clubs are expected to make last minute additions to their squads in the coming week to ensure that they have positions covered for the campaign.

The rest of the teams will be going all out to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won the last four successive league titles, while other attention will be on teams like Marumo Gallants, Royal AM and Sekhukhune United.

It is also worth noting that Orlando Pirates starts their league campaign without a coach after they fired Josef Zinnbauer following defeat to Swallows in the opening round of the MTN8 competition last weekend.

Sundowns VS AmaZulu

Mamelodi Sundowns begins the defence of their DStv Premiership title with a tricky clash against AmaZulu who finished below them on the standings last season.

Both teams have bolstered their teams with the Brazilians luring players like defenders Divine Lunga and Grant Kekana and attackers Pavol Safranko, Neo Maema and Thabiso Kutumela to Chloorkop during the transfer window.

On the other hand, AmaZulu were also busy on the transfer market as coach Benni McCarthy having signed Keagan Buchanan, Mxolisi Kunene, Tercious Malepe, Tshepang Moremi, Philani Zulu and Lindani Shange.

Golden Arrows VS Maritzburg United

The KwaZulu-Natal derby has always produced fireworks and this match promises not to be different as they will both be looking to start the campaign on a positive note, especially abafana bes’thende who will be playing at home at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Since he arrived at the club recently, Arrow coach Lehlohonolo Seema has signed Andile Fikizolo, Siyabonga Mbatha, Sbonelo Cele, Ntsikelelo Nxadi, Saziso Magawana, Thubelihle Magubane, Simo Mbhele, Nqubeko Dlamini, Bongumusa Nkosi, Themba Mantshiyane and Sazi Gumbi.

On the other hand, Maritzburg, who survived the play-offs by the skin of their teeth last season, Maritzburg have boosted their team Tato Lesoma, Renaldo Leaner, Brylon Petersen and Judas Moseamedi.

Orlando Pirates VS Stellenbosch

One match into the current season and Orlando Pirates have already parted ways with under pressure coach Josef Zinnbauer after they lost to Swallows in the opening round of the MTN8 last weekend.

This means that Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi will be on the bench when they start the season against unpredictable Stellenbosch at Orlando Stadium in what will be one of the most anticipated matches of the weekend.

On the other hand, Stellenbosch have not had too many disruptions to the start of the season and the management have kept faith with coach Steve Barker despite the fact that they struggled last season.

Baroka VS Marumo Gallants

Eyes will be on this match and especially on Marumo Gallants as they will be embarking on a journey under the new name after the owners bought the Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) last season and turned in it around.

On the other hand, Baroka have not made too many changes to their team and coach Matsimela Thoka will once again pin his hopes of ket attacker Evidence Makgopa who was part of the South Africa U23 team that played at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Cape Town City VS SuperSport United

These two teams have already tasted official action this season in the form of the MTN8 where Cape Town City booked a place in the semi-final by beating AmaZulu but SuperSport United lost to Golden Arrows.

Though they lost to 4-3 on penalties to Arrows in the first stage, SuperSport was happy that the match went all the way to shoot-outs as some of his key players got extra 30 minutes in their legs during extra time.

Swallows VS Royal AM

A lot is expected from Swallows who have been one of the busiest teams during the transfer market by recruiting players like Mwape Musonda, Tebogo Langerman, Yagan Sasman, Keletso Makgalwa, Jody February and Monnapule Saleng.

In Royal AM, it is not known which team is going to pitch up at Dobsonville Stadium or how they are going to perform this season as they only confirmed their participation in the DStv Premiership this week after acquiring the status of Bloemfontein Celtic.

TS Galaxy VS Kaizer Chiefs

TS Galaxy coach Owen Da Gama has gone about his pre-season preparations quietly as they approach their second season in the DStv Premiership where they will be looking to do better than last season and finish in the top eight.

For Kaizer Chiefs, who start the season with coach Stuart Baxter at the helm after he replaced Gavin Hunt, they are already under pressure after they lost 2-1 on penalties to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the opening round of MTN8 last weekend.
