Horses to bet on Gauteng Summer Cup 2018

Here are the top 5 Horses to bet on at the Gauteng Summer Cup:

1. Cascapedia

Jockey: G Lerena
Trainer: Mike de Kock

This is a solidly-built, four-year old filly, Irish-bred by the six-time Group 1-winning champion, High Chaparral. Cascapedia comes form a strong female line which includes Group 2 and Group-3 winner, Radevore and Irish champion, Al Bahathri. She has won five of her seven career starts, and Mike de Kock rates her highly, believing that the imported runners always get better with maturity.

2. It’s my turn

Jockey: A Marcus
Trainer: Dean Kannemeyer

The six-year-old gelding It’s My Turn, is possibly the highest-earning, two-time winner in South Africa, with takings already in excess of R1.5m. After a bit of a slow start, It’s My Turn took the Grade 3 Track and Ball Derby over 2400m at Greyville, and Grade 2 Gold Vase over 3000m at the same course. In 2017 It’s My Turn started with Kannemayer and, with Anton Marcus as jockey, we’re seeing some great improvements with this winning combination.

Current Horse Race Betting Odds: 8/1

3. Leige

Jockey: R Danielson
Trainer: Sean Tarry

The reigning Summer Cup champion, Liege, is five-year-old gelding who finally found his stride at the 2017 race. Having placed fourth in the 2016 Summer Cup – the same year he won the Grade 2 Victory Moon Stakes over 1800m and Grade 3 Jubilee Handicap over 1800m – he went on to take the big title the following year. His winnings are in excess of R1.8m and he has a total of six wins and four places – in 23 runs – to his name.

Current Horse Race Betting Odds: 40/1

4. Taking the peace

Jockey: W Kennedy
Trainer: Mike de Kock

She has won six of 13 starts including the Grade 3 Victory Moon Stakes over 1800m at Turffontein recently. In addition to this, Takingthepeace – daughter of Visionaire – has won a Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 race, taking more than R1.75m in stakes. De Kock believes that the upcoming G-BETS Gauteng Summer Cup will be her ultimate test. Known for her breathtaking finishes, Takingthepeace likes to come from last place to give the crowd an incredible final run.

5. Tilbury Fort

This four-year-old gelding has four wins and nine places out of 19 starts, with prize money totalling R604 000. Tilbury Fort, the son of Horse Chestnut, managed two of these wins, and a close second place, since being gelded, and seems to have improved significantly in form the past year.
