Tournament Preview
One of the key events outside of the majors returns to the fore on the PGA Tour in 2022 as the Wells Fargo Championship gets underway at TPC Potomac. Played in a variety of different guises over the years, the event has been on the PGA Tour since 2003 and has always been a huge money spinner for those involved. With over $8 million in the prize pot, there is plenty to play for in Maryland and the event moving to TPC Potomac in 2022 provides the backdrop as one of the most complex golf courses on the PGA Tour. Previous winners of the event include Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, and Rickie Fowler – testament to the esteem the event is held in and it should be another superb weekend of golf.

Plenty of the biggest names on the PGA Tour feature here in Maryland and they will be keen to get their hands on some silverware this weekend:-
Three-time winner of the event Rory McIlroy has shown mere glimpses of his best form this season but a return to some of his greatest triumphs could aid him here.
Fresh off the back of a top 5 at the Mexican Open last time out, Tony Finau looks set to be one of the front runners from the off here in Maryland.
Mexican Abraham Ancer finished runner up at this event in 2021 and he has a game well suited to the conditions here at TPC Potomac.
Fiery Englishman Tyrrell Hatton is very experienced at this level and whilst he hasn’t enjoyed his best season, he is very capable in a field such as this.
Experienced American Brian Harman is the epitome of a seasoned professional and he will relish playing conditions in Maryland this week.
1st Round Leader
The whole field here in Maryland will believe they can get off to a strong start and if they do so they could set themselves up for the week ahead:
English Ryder Cup star Matthew Fitzpatrick is one of the cleanest ball strikers around and if he brings his A-game from the off in Maryland, he could be tough to stop.
2018 Wells Fargo champion Jason Day hasn’t been in the best of nick in recent times but a return to familiar surroundings could do him some good this weekend.
Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here at TPC Potomac, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday afternoon:-
Canadian Corey Connors has been in scintillating form of late on the PGA Tour and he will be looking to turn all his recent promise into a top 10 finish this week.
2019 US Open champion Gary Woodland is a man still searching for his A-game but with some glimpses in recent events, he could well go deep on Sunday afternoon in Maryland.
Spanish star Sergio Garcia has seen his very best form elude him in recent months, but his game is still as strong as anyone’s when it ticks, and he could be fit and firing here.
