The build-up to the second Grand Slam of the season is well underway, and the next stop on the calendar for some of the best male players on the ATP Tour will take them to Mexico for the Mexican Open.
This event will get underway on Saturday, February 25, with the final taking place a week later on March 4. Players involved will be competing on a hard outdoor surface, and it will be held at Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco.
Event Overview
Bettors will be able to wager on every game throughout the tournament at BetXchange, beginning with the round of 16, which gets underway on Wednesday, March 1. The qualifying games will also be available for wagers, but many of the star players will not be in action until the latter stages.
Like the 2022 event, it will be played at Arena GNP Seguros, marking the second straight year that the area has hosted the ATP 500 event. The winning player will be crowned on Sunday, March 5, after the Mexican Open final has been staged on Centre Court.
Recent Winners
There was great sadness revolving around the event earlier this month, as it was revealed that Rafael Nadal wouldn’t be back in Mexico to defend his crown. The Spanish star has won the top prize on four occasions throughout his career, including last year when he beat Cameron Norrie in straight sets.
Alexander Zvarev was crowned champion in 2021, while Nick Kyrgios and Juan Martin Del Potro are also among the winners of the ATP 500 Tour event since 2018. Interestingly, no final at the Mexican Open has gone to a deciding set since Dominic Thiem’s victory in 2016 against Bernard Tomic. That could be an interesting betting trend for the 2023 event.
Leading Contenders
The top players that will be involved at the Mexican Open have recently been announced. The standout star involved will be US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz. He bypassed the Australian Open this year to recover from injury, and he will be looking to build momentum ahead of the French Open.
Alcaraz has already returned to winning ways on the tour since his return, as he landed victory at the Argentina Open, beating Norrie in straight sets in the final. It could be hard to bet against the Spanish teenager once again, making him our top pick.
Casper Ruud could be one of the leading contenders at the event this year, as he bids to win a tenth career title. The Norwegian appears to be progressing well, and it will be a fascinating rematch from the US Open should he come up against Alcaraz. A number of other players that have featured heavily in winning ATP 1000 events are also set to play in Mexico.
Those include Indian Wells victor Taylor Fritz, and the winner of the Paris Masters, Holger Rune. Meanwhile, Norrie has already shown his ability in this event by reaching the final 12 months ago, and he could be one set for another deep run at the Mexican Open.
Pick: Carlos Alcaraz at BetXchange.
