Venue: Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, UK.
Dates: Saturday 15th April 2023

Race Preview

The biggest race of the UK National Hunt season is on the cards at Aintree, with the 175th annual staging of the race in 2023. Despite the fact the Grand National is a Grade 3 race, the quality of the field in the race is elite, with the Grand National the flagship race of the three-day Aintree meeting. Winning the Grand National immortalises horse, trainer, and jockey in the racing fraternity and once again in 2023, there are a whole host of big names in the mix for Aintree glory.

There are multiple aspects that make the Grand National such a special race. Aesthetically, watching 40 horses go at it from the outset is a spectacle like no other. Next up, is the 30 fences they have to contend – all of which are some of the most difficult in world horse racing. Finally, the 4 mile, 2.5 furlong trip makes it the ultimate test of endurance for horses, and it truly is the race that stops a nation.

Race Winner

All of the biggest trainers, owners and jockeys will be jostling for position with the Grand National remaining the biggest race on the calendar in terms of prize money and prestige.

Here are some of the key ante-post runners and riders for the 2023 Grand National:

Corach Rambler – 6/1
Lucinda Russell trained Corach Rambler has produced some stunning performances in the past few years, and it is a horse that looks to have been primed for the Grand National.

Delta Work – 7/1
Gordon Elliott has a strong record at the Grand National and in veteran Delta Work, who finished 3rd in 2022, connections look to have a good shot of at least finishing in the places in the 2023 Grand National.

Noble Yeats – 8/1
Defending champion Noble Yeats had far too much for the field in 2022 and connections will be desperate to see this great stayer etch its name into history and go back-to-back at Aintree this year.

Mr Incredible – 12/1
Willie Mullins is always one of the trainers to beat during National Hunt season and his ride Mr Incredible has impressed throughout 2022 and 2023, making it a decent candidate here at Aintree.

Longhouse Poet – 14/1
Martin Brassil trained Longhouse Poet looks to have all the credentials to be in with a shot here at Aintree, having enjoyed similar conditions in an impressive win at Down Royal just over a month ago.

Gaillard Du Mensil – 14/1
Winning at Cheltenham and Aintree are the currency in which Willie Mullins deals and he will want to see Gaillard Du Mensil turn on the style here. This will be a serious step up in trip, but it looks to be a horse that enjoys challenges.

Any Second Now – 16/1
Two-time Grand National podium finisher Any Second Now will be eager to finally get the job done in 2023, having been edged out on a couple of previous occasions. Age is the question mark, but it looks to be in with a real shot once more this year.

Le Milos – 20/1
Dan Skelton has high hopes for Le Milos, a horse with serious credentials for a Grand National race. How it will go in the cut and thrust of a big race remains to be seen but there is some genuine excitement surrounding Le Milos.
