The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is a golf tournament with a unique format. One of the richest events on the European Tour, the tournament takes place over three historic Scottish courses over the four days of the event. Rounds will be played at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbairns, three of the Links courses that define the home of golf.

The event has sometimes been one that the top pros on the tour skip, but that is not the case in 2024. This field is one of the strongest in years, with many of the top players on the European Tour present and ready to compete for the title

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Leading Contenders

This is a massive field of pros and amateurs, but the two names at the top of the betting odds stand out. Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy are the two men to beat, and any golfer that can finish above the Spaniard and the Northern Irishman figures will be in a shot of winning the whole thing.

McIlroy is the No. 3 ranked golfer in the world, and he is once again in fine form. His quest to win a first major since 2013 has slipped by for another year, but he is a player who is always in the hunt at the business end of these major tournaments. McIlroy is coming off of back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Irish Open and the PGA Championship, meaning another win is getting close to being overdue.

Rahm is one of the LIV Golf players trying to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2024. He is the season’s champion on the Saudi-backed tour, while others from the breakaway ground playing here include Talor Gooch and five-time major champion Brooks Koepka. This is an important tournament for Rahm, not only to show that he is still a dominant force on the European Tour but also to help his eligibility for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Outside of Rahm and McIlroy, there are other names to look out for. Angel Hidalgo spectacularly won the Spanish Open last weekend, while Rasmus Hoigaard, the many who beat McIlroy to win the Irish Open, is also in the field. Other players in the mix include players that ply their trade on the PGA Tour, including defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick, Billy Horschel, Tommy Fleetwood, and Shane Lowry.

2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Prediction

One factor to consider is that the cut in this tournament is 54 holes instead of the traditional 36. Add in the celebrity amateurs, the three different course structures, and a final round at the iconic St Andrews, and you have something special.

The weather is usually a factor in these Links events, but the early forecast is for it to be a non-factor, especially late in the week. Look for low-scoring rounds, with the winner heavily under par at the end of four days of golf.

Pick: Tyrrell Hatton – 10/1

Hatton has been playing great golf this season and his record at this event is excellent. He has been no worse than T26 in any event since May, barring The Open, and his accuracy rankings against competitors in this field stand up well. He is the pick here.
