The UFC 307 in Salt Lake City is on, and the main event of the night is the battle for the light heavyweight title between the champion, Alex Pereira, and Khalil Rountree Jr., the challenger.

This highly anticipated clash serves as the main event of UFC 307, with the 205-lb championship belt hanging in the balance. Our hunch tells us to prepare for an old-fashioned fistfight. Both of these guys are excellent in stand-up, and they rarely take the business down on the mat. The challenger has 0 takedown attempts in the UFC, while Poatan has fewer than ten.

Rountree is considered to be a very tough rival, particularly once in the underdog position. Believe it or not, he has a 5-1 record when stepping into the octagon with the odds against him. Meanwhile, we all know who Poatan is, the guy who has ruled this sport in recent times. We all saw how he wrecked the organization and two divisions after arriving at the UFC.

Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Preview

Alex Pereira

Alex Pereira was the Glory kickboxing champ before coming to the UFC. At first, many believed that he came only because of Israel Adesanya, but that was a wrong assumption. He turned out to be one of the most dominant personas in the MMA world, both in and outside the cage.

Poatan did defeat Izzy, then went one division up to deliver some of the best KO highlights we’ve seen in the past few years. He truly became one of the megastars of this sport.

Pereira is 11-2 in the UFC, with him having four wins in a row. The last three were via KO, twice against Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill, and each one was a blast. There isn’t too much to say about him. This guy has one of the strongest punches in the organization. And incredibly unpredictable and unreadable. Jamahal Hill and Prochazka know that the best. Sean Strickland, too.

Khalil Rountree

Khalil Rountree is a master of Muay Thai. He already won one former Glory champion, trashing Gokhan Saki six years ago via KO in the first round. A lot has passed since then, and right now, the War Horse has 13 victories and five losses, with one no-contest. He rides a five-battle winning streak, during which he knocked out his rivals four times.

Despite being quick and packing a powerful punch, he has some significant weaknesses. For instance, he knows to overexpose too much, which you can’t afford against heavy-handed rivals like Poatan. However, we saw him eat plenty of punches and stay on his feet.

We also don’t know whether he has enough juice to keep up with Pereira’s tempo. Rountree is a big guy, and we haven’t seen him in championship rounds, so this raises plenty of questions. He did go to the distance, but only for three rounds.

Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Predictions

So, what’s the forecast for this thrilling encounter?

We pick Pereira. Rountree’s striking prowess surpasses that of any of Pereira’s prior challengers, but his reckless moments will ultimately cost him. We all know that Pereira doesn’t need too much space to deliver an ending blow.

This will be one of several matches on the main card, the most important for sure, yet not the only one for betting. To check the odds for this event and the others, follow this link.
