The stage is set for the 2025 SA20 Grand Final, as MI Cape Town will play Sunrisers Eastern Cape at Wanders Stadium in Johannesburg.
MI Cape Town was the first team to advance to the 2025 final. They finished top of the points table at the end of the 10-game season. They won seven, lost two, and had one no-result match due to the weather. They also picked up five bonus points, giving them a league-leading total of 35 points, seven ahead of the second-placed Paarl Royals.
MI Cape Town advanced straight to the final by winning the Qualifier 1 game over the Royals. They batted first, smashing their way to 199/4 from 20 overs. The Royals never looked like having enough in reply. They were eventually bowled out for 160 in 19.4 overs.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape had the more difficult route to this game. They played two games where losing would have seen them eliminated, but are battle-tested after winning both. Their pat was more difficult as they finished third on the log. They won five and lost five league games, picking up four bonus points and accumulating 24 points.
They first won the Eliminator game against the Joburg Super Kings at Centurian Park. Aiden Markram was the star, posting an unbeaten 62 from 40 balls. He helped carry the team to 184/6 from Sunrisers’ 20 allotted overs. The Super Kings struggled in reply, failing to make a contest of it as they finished on 157/7.
Qualifier 2 was the first close match in the playoffs. The Paarl Royals batted first, rolling to 175/4, a total worth defending. Tony de Zorzi was the hero for Sunrisers, crushing 78 from 49 balls as Eastern Cape ran down the Royals for the loss of two wickets with just four balls to spare.
MI Cape Town
There is a fun synergy to this final. In Match 1 of 2025 SA20, MI Cape Town hosted Sunrisers Eastern Cape at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha. The home side dominated the match, bowling Sunrisers out for just 77 and winning by 97 runs.
After finishing last in the previous two editions, MI Cape Town reinvented itself into a clinical monster in 2025 SA20. Players including Ryan Rickelton, Rassie van der Dussen, and Reeza Hendricks have stepped up when needed, with every player in the squad contributing to the success.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape
After losing all three of their opening games, Eastern Cape is a team in form. Markram and Marco Jansen have turned this squad into one to be feared, relying on the fact that they are looking for a three-peat on Saturday. This team knows how to win, so it should never be written off in a head-to-head match with a trophy on the line.

Fans are looking for a close game, which has been a rarity in this edition of the SA20. Only six matches out of 30 in the group stage were classed as tight matches, games won by 10 or fewer runs with six or fewer balls to spare. Only one of the three qualifiers went down to the wire, too.
