The US Open has more than enough excitement so far. We’ve seen some surprises, some interesting occurrences, incidents, etc. Since Sunday marks the end of the first week of the competition at Flushing Meadows, we need to provide a brief recap and make a few predictions for the upcoming period, which would be the US Open Week 2.

Apart from he preview we’ll mention notable seeds that were eliminated.

2025 US Open Men’s Preview

Notable Eliminations

  • Daniil Medvedev: Lost in the first round to Benjamin Bonzi in five sets.
  • Ugo Humbert: Eliminated in the first round by Adam Walton in four sets.
  • Holger Rune: Knocked out in the third round by Jan-Lennard Struff in a five-set match.
  • Ben Shelton: Retired due to injury during his third-round match against Adrian Mannarino.
  • Tommy Paul: Lost in the third round to Alexander Bublik in a five-set match.
  • Sebastian Korda: Retired due to injury in his first-round match against Cameron Norrie.
  • Jack Draper: Withdrew due to injury before his third-round match, allowing Zizou Bergs to advance via walkover.
  • Alexander Zverev: Lost to Auger-Aliassime in four sets.

Recap

Unlike some of their rivals and other seeds in the tournament, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz didn’t have any problems, as they cruised past their opponents easily. It’s already clear that the newly formed duopoly in the tennis world will persist, and unless there are some major upsets, one of these two will lift the title in New York.

Novak Djokovic is solid, and the Serb reached the fourth round more or less without problems. He faces Struff at that stage. On the other hand, Felix Auger-Aliassime eliminated Alexander Zverev, and he now faces Andrey Rublev.

Home fan favorite, Taylor Fritz, meets Mahac, but if he advances, the next round will be super-tough for the American as he awaits Carlos Alcaraz.

2025 US Open Ladies Preview

Notable Eliminations

  • Madison Keys: Stunned in the first round by Renata Zarazúa in a three-hour match on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
  • Petra Kvitová: Lost in the first round to Diane Parry, marking her final professional appearance.
  • Caroline Garcia: Eliminated in the first round by Kamilla Rakhimova, also her final professional match.
  • Mirra Andreeva: Defeated in the third round by Taylor Townsend in two sets.
  • Leylah Fernandez: Lost in the third round to Aryna Sabalenka in two sets.
  • Ema Raducanu: lost to Elena Rybakina in two sets.
  • Jasmine Paolini: lost to Marketa Vondrousova in two sets.

Recap

Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek appear very confident, and they both advanced to the Round of 16 without any issues. They had more or less solid rivals, meaning that their form is at a pretty high level, and even though the results can’t reveal that, we’ve seen them tested in certain situations.

Elena Rybakina looks good, too. She didn’t lose a set in New York, eliminated Raducanu, and now meets Vondrousova. Now this should be interesting to see. If she handles the Czech easily, the Kazakh player might be a dark horse.

Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka clash in the Round of 16, too. This will be an interesting meeting to see. Why? Whoever wins here has a clear path to the semis, as the upcoming rival will be the winner of Kostyk vs. Muchova.

For the moment, the finals we expect to see are Sabalenka vs. Swiatek, as they both look fantastic, but unlike the men’s part of the draw, here we have more contenders with realistic chances to surprise and snatch the silverware.

If you want to bet on the US Open here are the tennis odds.
