The GladAfrica Championship season returns to action this weekend after the Nedbank Cup enforced break with teams up to 7th spot on the standings having a chance to overtake Sekhukhune United at the top of the log. Sekhukhune, who are leading the pack with 20 points on goal difference from second-placed Richards Bay, will also be looking to stretch their lead at the top with the campaign nearing the half way mark. Richards Bay, who caused a major upset by dumping Kaizer Chiefs out of the Nedbank Cup on Sunday, will also be interested in moving to the top of the pile.

Cape United vs Pretoria Callies

Cape United host Pretoria Callies looking for their first win in three matches as they have drawn two and lost one of their recent matches, a run that has seen them drop to 8th spot.  In Callies they are up against the most inform team in the GladAfrica Championship who have won their last four league matches to move to 5th spot on the standings. During this four match hot winning streak, Callies have scored six goals and coach Sammy Troughton will be eying three more points to end this block of five matches with all the 15 points.

Pretoria University vs Cape Town All Stars

University of Pretoria (Tuks) are flirting dangerously with the relegation zone after a disappointing run of four successive draws. In fact, Tuks have failed to register a win during their last five matches as a result of four draws and one loss and they will be disparate for a win that will take them a few places up on the ladder. They will fancy their chances against 14th placed CT All Stars who are on a poor run having lost all their last five matches. Another defeat for CT All Stars may see them drop to the bottom of the log if they lose and Cape Town Spurs and Bizana Pondo Chiefs win their matches.

Uthongathi vs Royal AM

Fresh from their humbling defeat by Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup, last 32 at the weekend, Uthongathi shift their focus to the GladAfrica Championship where they will be looking for their first win in three matches following a recent run of defeat and a loss. Their mission of returning to winning ways is going to be a tough one against Royal AM who have significantly improved their fortunes in recent times. Royal AM goes into this match on the back of three wins, one draw and one loss over their last five matches. Uthongathi and Royal AM are tied on 17 points on the log and it is going to be a closed encounter with Uthongathi slight favourites because they are playing at home.

JDR Stars vs Steenberg United

Steenberg, who are sitting fourth from the bottom, have only won once in their last five matches with two draws and two losses and they will be up against it at the Giant Stadium in Soshanguve.

Cape Town Spurs vs Sekhukhune United

Free State Stars have improved in leaps and bounds since the arrival of coach Allan Freeze from AmaZulu in December. Freeze found the club in disarray but he has managed to guide them to calmer waters and they are currently sitting 9th spot on the log with promise of pushing for one of the play-off spots. This weekend, they are going to be tested to their limits by Richards Bay who will be highly motivated after their highly impressive 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup last weekend. Richards will be favourites to emerge victorious because of their recent form where they have won their last two league matches.

Bizana Pondo Chiefs vs Jomo Cosmos

This is another match that pits two teams who are on opposite ends on the log with Bizana Chiefs at the bottom of the table and Cosmos among the early pacesetters on 4th spot. Both teams will be looking to return to winnings way after they lost their last league matches but and Chiefs, who have lost their last two league matches, will be motivated by the fact that they are at home.

Polokwane City vs TS Sporting

Little separate these two teams on the log with TS Sporting sitting 10th spot and Polokwane City one place below them on 11th. The difference is that TS Sporting are two points better off and their recent form is better than that of Polokwane City. Polokwane will be hopeful of using their home ground advantage to get all the three points that could possibly take them into the top eight if other results go their way.
