Tournament Preview
The DP World Tour merges with the African Tour in Nairobi for the Magical Kenya Open. Having been on the calendar since 1967, the event has a rich history within the worldwide golfing sphere. With a hefty 1.75 million euros in the prize pot, there is plenty to play for at the Muthaiga Golf Club this week and with plenty of attention sure to be on the Player’s Championship on the PGA Tour, this event does sometimes sneak under the radar. Previous winners of the event include Trevor Immelman and Edoardo Molinari, testament to the prestige in which the event is held.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
Plenty of the biggest names on the DP World Tour are present in Nairobi meaning it should be a hotly contested week of golf:-
Frenchman Antoine Rozner sits on the cusp of the top 20 on the DP World Tour and he starts as the favourite here in conditions that should certainly suit his game.
Scot Robert MacIntyre is one of the cleanest ball strikers around and should he get going here in Kenya, he could be a very tough man to stop.
Spaniard Adri Arnaus is starting to put the consistent performances needed in on the European Tour and he looks to be one of the men to beat here in Kenya.
Swede Marcus Kinhult enjoyed a superb top 10 at the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year and if he can replicate that form, he looks to be good value from the outset.
Former Kenya Open champion Edoardo Molinari has been struggling for form over the past couple of seasons but a return to familiar surrounds could assist him this week.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
German Marcel Siem picked up his first tour win for 8 years last month and that confidence should help him get off to a flyer here in Kenya.
Scot Richie Ramsay is one of the fastest starters on the DP World Tour and if he finds his stride, he could be in contention from the off here in Nairobi.
Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Kenya, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:-
Spaniard Adrian Otaegui continues to perform on the DP World Tour, and few would bet against him being in amongst the top of the leader board come Sunday afternoon.
Emerging Scot Connor Syme hasn’t been in the best of form in 2023 so far but he has a game capable of more than mixing it in this field in Kenya this weekend.
American John Caitlin has absolutely no form to speak of this season, but he is too good to not be in the mix in events such as this on the DP World Tour on a regular basis.
