Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt continues to be one of the most wanted players in Europe this transfer window.
It is easy to see why this is, with the Dutch central defender helping guide Ajax to an unlikely berth in the Champions League semifinals, and had them mere seconds from a final spot before Lucas Moura flipped the script.
At this moment, and these deals are never completed until the signature is on the bottom line, it appears that Juventus has the upper hand over Barcelona and PSG when it comes to completing the deal for de Ligt.
Barcelona seem to be out of contention as they cannot guarantee de Ligt playing time and they don’t want to pay Ajax’s valuation of the player. PSG are a better fit in terms of minutes, but de Ligt apparently sees a move to Ligue 1 as a lateral step compared to the better players and teams he will face in Serie A.
