For the second year in a row, Master Sabina has won the Sansui Summer Cup at Turfontein Racecourse in Johannesburg on the 26th November 2016.
At the 250m, Master Sabina had five in front of him, as his jockey Gavin Lerena got him going and forced him through a gap between stablemate Master Switch and The Conglomerate.
Master Sabina showed guts and burst through, going on powerfully to win by 1,30 lengths in a time of 124,44 secs. This was close on 2 secs slower than his winning clock last year.
Says jockey Gavin Lerena: “Master Sabina did so well today and even though the race didn’t go well for me early on, his heart and determination made the difference in the end. When that gap closed on us at the 200m, it was a real test of courage.”
The 7 year old has won 9 races with 5 places from 27 starts and took his stakes to R3 705 725.
Betting odds for Master Sabina were 7/1 on Saturday. He was second favourite to win.
