It will be a welcome return home for Mats Hummels next season after it was announced that the German international defender is returning to Signal Iduna Park three years after moving to Bayern Munich.

The former Dortmund captain, a position he will likely occupy again before too long, is returning to Borussia Dortmund in a £33 million deal.

Hummels is a Dortmund legend already as he played 306 competitive games for the club and led them to the 2013 Champions League final in his first spell at the club. He also chipped in with 25 goals, a decent number for a centre back not known as being a goalscorer.

Hummels won the German domestic double with Bayern last season, with his experience a key factor as Bayern ran down Dortmund to claim the title. It will be interesting to see if the move can vault Hummels back into the plans of German coach Joachim Löw after the defender was informed last season he would no longer be in contention for national side selection.

Dortmund are currently 4.75 to win the Bundesliga next season with BetXChange. Bayern Munich are the favourites at 0.25.
