Tuesday sees a battle between Champions League teams struggling in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle United and Spurs sit 12th and 13th on the log as we enter Round 14 this midweek. Such is the logjam of teams with similar seasons, the two teams sit on 8 points, just four behind Brighton in fifth.

That makes this a virtual six-pointer in the middle of the pack, especially as both these squads have Top 4/5 aspirations come the end of the campaign.

Here is a look ahead at the contest.

Newcastle United VS Spurs Venue: St. James’ Park

Newcastle United VS Spurs Date: Tuesday, December 2

Newcastle United VS Spurs Odds:

History

Newcastle have won three league matches on the bounce against Spurs for the first time since 2006-2008. It has also been three in a row for Newcastle against Spurs at home, with a wild aggregate score of 12-2.

Newcastle United

Newcastle have been outstanding at home this calendar year. They have won 11 of 16 home matches in 2025, including an exceptional 2- win over inconsistent Manchester City in their last outing at St. James’ Park.

They backed that up with an unexpectedly convincing 4-1 win over Everton at the weekend. The result was the worst suffered to date by the Toffees at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Newcastle will hope centerback Sven Botman is available, but he might find it hard to get back into the side given the form of Malick Thiaw. Yoame Wissa is back in training, but he is not expected to be ready for this one.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs are a weird team this season. They have been brutal at home, but have (generally) been solid on the road. That is especially true when they get out of the capital, as they are unbeaten in all four of their Premier League games away from London this term.

They have won 13 points out of 18 available away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This is due to a combination of less pressure on the road and the tempo of a road game being better suited to Thomas Frank’s style of play.

Spurs should have Cristian Romero back to partner Mickey van der Ven at the heart of their defense. Many of their issues lie in forward areas, with Frank still seemingly unsure of his best lineup.

The lack of creativity is not helped by the continued absences of James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, and Dejan Kulusevski.

Best Bets

If you believe in the power of managers, then it is worth noting that Newcastle gaffer Eddie Howe has won six of eight Premier League matches when facing Spurs’ Thomas Frank. Those games came when Frank was manager of Brentford, but it shows that Howe has always had the better of their meetings.

Looking at a potential bet builder. Newcastle to win, Bruno Guimaraes to assist, and Fabian Schar to be carded pays out 34/1.

Bruno has been involved in 11 goals in his last 19 at St. James’ Park, including two goals and an assist in his previous three matches. Schar is always up for a physical battle, and in Spurs’ striker Richarlison, he will be facing a player full of the dark arts.

I like this as a trio, but the safer move is anything involving a Newcastle win.
