Tournament Preview
The PGA Tour rolls into Illinois with a stellar field assembled for the John Deere Classic. Whilst many of the biggest names in the game will have one eye on the British Open starting later this month, the John Deere Classic has become a staple on the tour at this time of the year and many American and Rest of the World players look to have strong prospects here. The event has been held at TPC Deere Run since 2000 and with winning alumni such as Steve Stricker, Jordan Spieth and Vijay Singh it certainly has a rich heritage as an event on the PGA Tour.

Outright Winner
With such a high quality field in action in Illinois, picking an outright winner looks to be no easy task but here are our top 5 selections this week:
It has been a tough season overall for the experienced American Webb Simpson but his overall performances across both the PGA Tour in recent years make him the justified favourite here.
Talented Canadian Adam Hadwin lead after two rounds of the US Open earlier this month and with his ball striking on point, he should be a candidate in an open field this week.
Consistency is the currency Brendon Todd deals in, and he will be looking to make the most of a fringe field here and pick up a big win, with accompanying ranking points.
American Charles Howell III is a proven performer at this level and with some improved performances in recent weeks, he could sneak under the radar here.
Ryan Moore is player that has struggled for form in recent seasons, but he triumphed at this event back in 2016 and he has a game that will suit the testing conditions in Illinois.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
Former World Number one Jason Day has had a quiet season in 2022 but he will be keen to hit the ground running here in Illinois.
Fellow Australian Cameron Davis has made a habit of putting in consistent performances in recent months and he could be a candidate to get off to a quick start here.
Top Ten Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Illinois, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the Top 10 come Sunday:-
The 2009 US Open champion Lucas Glover has shown flashes of brilliance in 2022 and he could well go deep here in Illinois.
2012 John Deere Classic champion Zach Johnson has been off the tour for a while due to injury but should be back fit and firing here before the British Open.
South African Dylan Frittelli won this event back in 2019 and whilst his game has dropped off somewhat since then, a return to winning surrounds is always welcome for golfers.
