BetXchange Spurs vs Man Utd Odds:

History

Two teams with goals far above their current standings will meet on Sunday as the Spurs host Manchester United at the Tottenham Stadium in North London.

These two ‘Big 6’ clubs head into Saturday’s match with United in 13th place and Spurs in 14th place in the Premier League table. This puts these two huge money, huge fanbase, and huge market clubs behind the likes of Brentford, Brighton, and Bournemouth.

Reams have been written about Spurs and United’s current predicaments. From wasteful transfer spending to focusing less on football and more on the commercial side, things are not rosy for fans of the two clubs.

The good news is that despite their position on the log, neither of these teams is in relegation trouble. Spurs are 10 points out of the drop zone, while United come into the weekend 12 points ahead of 18th placed Leicester City.

The three promoted teams are too bad to catch either giant, but who will win here and perhaps spark a late-season run up the standings?

Spurs

There is an injury epidemic in the Premier League, and Spurs have been one of the worst-hit teams throughout the season. The argument is that chairman Daniel Levy should have stocked the cupboards with more players in case this happened, with the squad looking paper thin at times.

The good news for the home side is that goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, fullback Destiny Udogie, and influential midfielder James Maddison are all fit and back in contention. The bad news is that starting center-back pairing Cristian Romero, Mickey van de Ven, and frontline striker Dominic Solanke are still a couple of weeks away.

Man United

Manchester United concentrated on thinning the dead wood in the squad during the transfer window. Unable to make signings due to FFP, the best that head coach Ruben Amorim could do was send wantaway star Marcus Rashford and complete flop Anthony out on loan.

They also have injuries, with Amorim being forced to draft in academy prospects over the last week to train with the first-team squad.

Best Bets

Spurs beat United earlier this season at Old Trafford, and a win here would be their first double over the Red Devils since the 1989-90 season. They have also been unbeaten in their last five matches against United, with three wins and two draws.

On the other hand, they have been brutal at home lately. They haven’t won at the Tottenham Stadium in seven games, losing five and drawing two. That run has turned the stadium incredibly toxic, with Levy and manager Ange Postecoglu both hearing the ire of the fans.

United seems to have hit some form. They have won four of their last five games in all competitions, but when they lose, it typically comes alongside a tepid performance.

Given the high press and intense attack style that Postecoglu favors, goals tend to be guaranteed in Spurs games. United was abject in their win against Leicester in the cup last time out, so I like Spurs to win here with both teams scoring at least once.

Over 3.5 goals (6/5) is an interesting bet, while Sputrs to win 3-1 at 15/1 could be worth a punt.
