Is there a better fight to watch than the rematch between the two big champions and legends of the UFC? Heavyweight titans Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic are clashing once again to decide who is the ultimate ruler among the big guys in this organization. But not only that, they want to settle the score between them and prove several things. Cormier wants to shut down all the critics who are suggesting that his first win over Stipe was a lucky one. On the other hand, Miocic craves to get even with his rival and to prove that in fact, he is the king of the jungle.
Preview
Miocic (18-3) was the champion until he lost the belt last year against Cormier at UFC 226. It was his first loss since 2014, and a match with Junior dos Santos whom he defeated later. During his reign, Miocic set the record with three successful title defenses in the heavyweight category (vs. Overeem, dos Santos, and Ngannou). Now he aims to get back what is his, but it will be a tough task for the fighter with Croatian roots. He also must win because of another reason, and that is his legacy. Miocic’s legend will no doubt be diminished with another loss to Cormier, which is why he needs to regain the belt.
After beating Miocic, Cormier (20-1-1) had one title defense, and that was against Derrick Lewis on November 2018, at the UFC 230. He defeated the challenger with a rear-naked choke in the second round and remained the title-holder. He is entering this contest as a favorite, and the bookies believe his another title defense. Cormier has been one of the most dominant fighters of his time, as he had just one loss in his career, and that was against Jon Jones in 2015. Afterward, these two had one more fight, which ended with a draw. Jones would later get suspended because of the usage of the illegal substances, which opened the door for Cormier to become the light heavyweight champion. He would afterward drop that belt to go into a higher category and fight with Miocic.
Head to Head
At UFC 226 on July 7, 2018, in Las Vegas, Cormier defeated Miocic, surprising the fans a little bit. Until that fight, Stipe was considered to be the meanest big guy of them all in the UFC, but eventually, DC proved that claim wrong. In the beginning, Miocic used his length, but as time went by, Cormier also started to strike hard. In the late part of the first round, DC landed a massive right hook to Miocic’s head, forcing him to lose the ground under his feet. Cormier used that and finished the event stunning the whole world, and becoming the new heavyweight champion.
Prediction
We told you that DC stands better with the bookies. The reason for that is his shape, as he had one big fight following the first meeting with Miocic. But the former champ dedicated his time solely on the preparations for this event, and probably sharpened his form in the best possible way. Though everybody believes that DC has an advantage in this situation, we have a bit different opinion. That long pause Miocic took might have suited better for him, and because of that, we would go with him regaining the crown.
