The next stop on the 2025-26 Sunshine Tour is the Alfred Dunhill Championship played on the East Course of the Royal Johannesburg Golf Course. This is one of the Sunshire Tour events that is co-sanctioned by the European Tour, and the golfers will be aiming to claim a share of the €1.5 million purse.
Event Information
This will be the 24th time that the Alfred Dunhill Championship, or some name variation, has been played since debuting on the tour in 2000. There was no event in 2017 due to course renovation, and none in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the first time the event will be held at the Royal Johannesburg Golf Club. The first five tournaments were played at Houghton, while from 2005 to 2024, the golfers took on Leopard Creek. The event will return to that venue next year.
The East Course at the venue plays to a par-72 at 7,656 yards.
Alfred Dunhill Championship Odds
Alfred Dunhill Championship odds to win with BetXchange:
- Jayden Trey Schaper – 10/1
- Christian Bezuidenhout – 10/1
- Angel Ayora – 11/1
- Dean Burmester – 18/1
- Branden Grace – 25/1
There are three LIV Golf players in the field, and they all feature in the top 10 betting odds. Dean Burmester is the fourth favorite at 18/1, Grenden Grace is the fifth favorite at 25/1, and Louis Oosthuisen is the joint eighth favorite at 35/1.
Oosthuisen won in 2023, while another former winner ranks high on the betting chart. That would be 2020 winner Christian Bezuidenhout, who is the joint favorite at 10/1. It is worth noting that after foreign wins in 2018 (David Lipsky, USA) and 2019 (Pablo Lazzabal, Spain), the last three winners have been from South Africa.
Alfred Dunhill Championship Leading Contenders
Burmester is one to watch. He has played in this event seven times since 2011, with his best finish coming in 2023 when he tied for seventh. The South African feels due a higher finish than that at this point in his career.
Grace is another who plays this event regularly. The 2015 winner has finished in the top 10 six times in ten starts. If you like him to place, he is 21/10 for a top 10 and 21/5 for a top 5.
Oosthuiosen is an enigma at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. He either slides into the top 10 or he falls apart and fails to make the cut. He had more missed cuts (5) than made (4), which is why his odds to win are just 35/1 even as a recent winner.
If you are looking for a regular player on the tour, then check out Jennis du Plessis at 45/1. Du Plessis has been white hot recently, finishing first, fourth, and second in his last three outings. He also has a fifth-place finish at this course on his card.
Alfred Dunhill Championship Prediction
Top-end South African golfers typically do very well when returning home in the offseason of their tours. Add in a strong end to his LIV Golf season when he finally put injuries and poor form behind him, and I like Brenden Grace to win this event.
Grace had three top-five finishes in the last four LIV Golf individual events, while a T5 finish at the Saudi Invitational two weeks ago shows that form has continued into the offseason.
Pick: Brenden Grace – 25/1
