The Qatar TotalEnergies WTA 1000 tournament is the first Masters at the WTA tour this year. Following the Australian Open, this is the start of yet another chapter, not only for the players, but also for all those tennis betting lovers who can get back to high-tier wagering once again.

Seven of the 10 top-ranked players are in Qatar right now, and we can say that the strength of this tournament is very, very high, and that promises a good battle and interesting competition.

No.1 in the world, Aryna Sabalenka, is out, and the Belarusian probably needs some time to recover from the loss in the Melbourne finals, which looked to have shaken her. That puts Iga Swiatek as the top seed. She already has three triumphs here and is the biggest favorite for this year’s crown. Though many disagree with that because Elena Rybakina comes flying after her success in Australia. Other names are in the mix too, like the reigning champ, Amanda Anisimova, or Coco Gauff.

Qatar WTA 1000 History

The history of the TotalEnergies Open is impressive, despite it being around for just 25 years. It did pause between 2008 and 2011, but overall, that didn’t affect its reputation.

Last year’s champion is Amanda Anisimova, who beat Jelena Ostapenko in the finals, 6-4, 6-3.

Here are the most interesting facts about this tournament:

  • Most titles: Iga Swiatek 3
  • First champion: Martina Hingis
  • Successive champions: Anastasia Myskina, Victoria Azarenka, Iga Swiatek (three in a row)

Martina Hingis has also won in doubles, and the doubles champions of last year are Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.

2026 WTA Qatar TotalEnergies Preview

Apart from Sabalenka, there are other notable names who didn’t come to Qatar, like Jessica Pegula, Naomi Osaka, Madison Keys, Iva Jovic, and Marta Kostyuk.

But even so, the quality here in Doha is excellent. We’ve stated that Swiatek looks powerful here in Qatar, and that she won three editions in her five appearances. This ratio clearly shows its dominance. The Pole ended her AO campaign in the quarterfinals, losing to the future champion, Rybakina, in straight sets. Now this court is fast, and the turf is maybe harder than in Australia, and we’ll see how she responds to that.

When looking at her draw, the first big challenge comes in the quarterfinals, when she should meet her 2024 Roland Garros final opponent, Jasmine Paolini.

On the other hand, in the other half of the draw is Amanda Anisimova, the reigning champ. Both know one another from the 2025 Wimbledon final, when Swiatek rolled over Anisimova, inflicting one of the biggest final losses in history, not allowing the American to take a single game. Anisimova can meet with Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, as the Ukrainian plays solid right now.

In the other part, the biggest name is Rybakina, who won the Australian Open. Does she have the power to go all the way here, or the motive, we’ll see right away. She has Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals, and after that, Coco Gauff, whose part of the bracket is a bit easier than the rest of the rivals’, at least up to the final 8.

2026 WTA Qatar TotalEnergies Predictions

For the moment, our pick is Rybakina. She had few decent rivals in Australia, and even in the finals against Sabalenka, we saw Elena easily defeat the Belarusian the moment she adjusted to the changes, and calmly flipped both the result and the momentum in the final set. Switek may be the highest seed, but the way Rybakina beat her in Melbourne is a statement we can’t forget.

Pick: Rybakina
