Egypt and South Africa clash in the second round of the AFCON tournament in Morocco, both teams coming in after opening wins. It was 2-1 for these teams, with the Pharaons beating Zimbabwe and South Africa besting Angola.

AFCON odds favor Mo Salah and the crew, though we can’t say they’re big favorites coming into this event. After all, we’ve seen too many surprises in the past, and to be honest, Bafana Bafana plays well and looks pretty decent in their last few appearances.

Everybody expected low-scoring affairs in the first round, yet the games of these teams have played out in a completely different manner. All those who want to see more detailed AFCON odds just follow this link.

Egypt VS South Africa Preview

Egypt

The Pharaons had to get back from behind in this one, as Zimbabwe led at halftime, 0-1. Eventually, the greatest player this country ever had, Mohamed Salah, scored in stoppage time to give the team a 2-1 win. Previously, Omar Marmoush leveled.

Egypt was dominant in every aspect of play. They held the ball 78% of the time, and had 35 total shots. We can say that they fully deserved to beat the rivals who didn’t know how to hurt them on breaks or set pieces in the second half. Simply, they were overrun by the Egyptian midfield and pressed in their own box.

Hossam Hassan’s team plays games with moderate efficiency. Just one of the past ten didn’t end with either 2 or 3 goals, and that pattern is as obvious as it gets.

South Africa

We didn’t expect to see three goals in the game between South Africa and Angola. Angola had more chances, but Bafana Bafana had more composure in the crucial moments, taking three points and making a huge step towards the knockout stage.

Lyle Foster was the man here as he scored the game-winning goal and had an assist in the opening half when he connected with Appollis, who netted in the 21st minute.

South Africa has lost just once in its last 18 appearances. To be honest, they haven’t been that confident having 8 ties during that stretch, but lately, we’ve seen Bafana’s improvement. South Africa won four in a row, in three of them scoring at least twice. Their rivals were Rwanda, Zambia, Ghanaian B team, and Angola, whom they defeated two days ago.

Egypt VS South Africa Head to Head

These two sides have met twice in March this year. South Africa hosted Egypt, and the match ended 1-1. But seven days later, South Africa recorded a huge road victory, 1-3.

Believe it or not, Bafana didn’t lose against Egypt in the last 6 games, or since 2006. All the games during that span, except the previous one, have ended with under 2.5 goals.

Egypt VS South Africa Predictions

Egypt is the favorite here, but Bafana won’t go down without a proper fight and probably a fierce one. South Africa will be pleased with one point here; they won’t be the ones to attack, but instead wait. Betting on the final outcome is very tricky in this case, because one point works just fine for both units.

That and the fact that South Africa plans to defend fiercely is why we picked under 2.5 goals as the final bet.
