This weekend’s Australian Moto GP race is extremely interesting. But not because of high-caliber names, yet quite the opposite, due to their absence.
Phillip Island won’t see the newly crowned champ, Marc Marque, or several other riders in all three competitions, creating an opportunity for other participants to step up and possibly achieve some of the best results of their careers.
As for this track, we don’t have much to say because it’s one of the best in the motocross world. Not only because of its history, but also due to the fantastic views and landscapes, it is like nowhere in the world. Sure, it’s far for most fans to travel and see, but those who went there experienced heaven.

MotoGP 2025 – Phillip Island Preview
The MotoGP paddock lands at Phillip Island for Round 19 of the 2025 season.
- Length 4.448 km (2.764 mi)
- Turns 12
Racing conditions at the Australian GP are very rigid, and the wind/tyre temperature windows create problems not just for the riders, but also for the teams, as they constantly demand adjustments to tactics.
Fabulous Phillip Island this weekend, the easiest track of the season for #MotoGP brakes. PI is fast & flowing, not stop & go, which is why it's one of the greats 😎✊ pic.twitter.com/oKYHw0GyTz

The stronger the wind is at Phillip Island, the quicker the tyres wear out. This forces teams to change their pit stop tactics and react quickly, often leading to chaotic finishes and unexpected standings.
Australian MotoGP – Situation Before the Race
The new World Champion, Marc Marquez, will miss the Australian GP and Malaysian GP due to his shoulder injury. His absence means the fight for second place overall becomes the new focus. Two names are involved in it – his brother Alex Márquez and Francesco Bagnaia.
Surgery done, everything went well. ✅
Thanks for all your messages and support!

Alex has a slight edge after a strong finish in Indonesia, while Bagnaia aims to bounce back from a rare weekend without points. We have to add also, that Ducati’s test rider, Michele Pirro, steps in for the injured champion alongside Bagnaia.
Another rider drawing attention is Fermin Aldeguer, who secured his inaugural MotoGP win at Mandalika, becoming the second-youngest winner in premier-class history. He already won here, but in Moto2, so we can say Aldeguer has what it takes to make a breakthrough here and repeat Mandalika.
Aprilia heads to the Australian GP searching for consistency, as they oscillated frequently in the near past. Marco Bezzecchi crashed out early in Indonesia, ruining his prospects for a good result. He also has a long-lap penalty this weekend, which complicates his situation.
With Jorge Martin still sidelined, Lorenzo Savadori takes his place, while Raul Fernández rides on a strong momentum after a sprint podium and sixth place in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Ai Ogura’s participation depends on medical clearance after a late-race crash.
Acosta Aiming No.5 in General Standings
Speaking of KTM, it continues to build strength late in the season. Pedro Acosta has climbed within range of the top four in the championship after another podium, showing his true potential and sending a message to all the other MotoGP title contenders next year that he has his plans too.

Acosta’s teammate Brad Binder posted his best placement of the year, finishing fourth at Mandalika. The South African looks to extend his run of top-ten results at the Island and gain momentum for the upcoming challenges. Enea Bastianini hopes to rebound from a previous failure when he didn’t even finish the race, while Pol Espargaro returns in place of the injured Maverick Vinales, who is another big name missing this race.
Behind the leading group, the battle for fifth overall in MotoGP standings is starting to heat up. Acosta has edged ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio, but there’s a new face in that battle. Aldeguer’s recent burst has brought him within ten points of the VR46 rider, and he, too, wants a piece of the action here. Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco round out the top ten, while Alex Rins arrives off a strong ride in Indonesia.
Home favourite Jack Miller makes his return to Phillip Island, a circuit where he has twice fought for victory. With forecasts hinting at possible rain on Sunday, the Australian could be a dark horse — especially in mixed conditions.
Elsewhere, Luca Marini and Joan Mir have shown steady improvement, while Miguel Oliveira and Somkiat Chantra continue to collect solid results.
As always, Phillip Island promises drama. With Márquez sidelined and the rest of the field pushing to end the season on a high, another classic Australian Grand Prix looks certain — a mix of speed, chaos, and the kind of close racing only “The Island” can deliver.
