CAF Champions League Final – 1st Leg Bet Preview
Al Ahly vs Wydad AC
Match Winner Odds:
Following an incredible season of African Champions League action, it all comes down to the battle between Al Ahly and Wydad AC – to see who will be crowned the champion of the continent.
Fittingly, the two major forces in African football over the past couple of seasons will meet – in what should be a superb end of season showpiece.
10-time winners Al Ahly have been slowly but surely returning to form over the past few months, and they will be chasing their third CAF Champions League title in just 4 seasons.
For Wydad AC however, having the chance to go back-to-back for the first time in their history is certainly appealing and they will be revelling in the role of underdogs here.
Winning the CAF Champions League crown in both 2020 and 2021 was an accurate representation of the excellent form Al Ahly have demonstrated over the past few seasons and the Egyptian side have been the team to beat once again in 2023.
A 4-0 aggregate thumping of ES Tunis in the semi-finals was a strong message sent out to the rest of the competition and once again, they look to be finding form at just the right time – in a competition they have managed to win 10 times previously.
Defending champions Wydad AC will be eager to put in a performance here in this two legged tie, knowing full well that a result away from home, would give them something to protect next weekend.
The Moroccan giants have also been one of the most consistent and feared teams on the continent in recent years, exemplified by their CAF Champions League crowns in 2017 and 2022.
Wydad AC will be all too aware of the challenge facing them in the first leg, but they could relish playing without expectation in this one and they are always a difficult side to break down, regardless of the opposition.
The stakes could not be higher for both Al Ahly and Wydad AC.
With no love lost between the two sides anyway, for Al Ahly winning an 11th CAF Champions League title and further etching their name into African footballing history, is sure to be the ultimate goal in this one.
Wydad AC meanwhile are the defending champions in this competition, and they will be desperate not to give this up without a fight and a result in the first leg, could be crucial in the return fixture.
Odds and Predictions
Whilst Wydad AC will want to stay in the tie, Al Ahly will be keen to kill it as soon as possible, meaning goals could be hard to come by.
Home advantage could prove telling and whilst Wydad AC certainly won’t roll over, Al Ahly should prevail in front of their home fans.
The occasion is huge for both sets of players and fans and whilst both sides will be desperate to win, not losing heavily in the first leg, could end up being more important.
