Currie Cup – Game Week 7 Match Preview – Griquas vs Free State Cheetahs & Pumas vs Blue Bulls
The crunch end of the Currie Cup season is looming large and despite COVID 19 putting pay to Western Province’s clash with the Natal Sharks, there is still plenty on the line for all the sides playing in game week 7. With the wooden spoon looming large and results not going their way, Griquas will be targeting their clash against an inconsistent Free State Cheetahs side as a chance to pick up some points. The Blue Bulls meanwhile will be looking to win their games in hand on the teams above them and an intriguing clash with the Pumas awaits.
Griquas vs Free State Cheetahs
Two teams looking for points for different reasons face off in Kimberley in what should be a fascinating encounter. Griquas are winless this season but their performances haven’t been as bad as their results suggest whilst the Free State Cheetahs have lost 3 of their 5 matches and despite some great results, their inconsistencies have halted their progress this term.
Four tight losses have confined Griquas to the bottom of the Currie Cup table and although they have games in hand on the sides above them, they need to start picking up points quickly. Defensively they have struggled all season, with over 20 points conceded in every game played and they know they will need to address that issue before they take on the Cheetahs.
Betting Tip: Point Spread – Griquas +12.5 points – 0.95
Free State Cheetahs
The Free State Cheetahs have struggled for form and consistency this term, but they still have a squad packed with stars and can never be written off. They have two opening defeats to blame for their 5th place standing in the table and their win over Natal and performance against the Western Province is testament to their quality in key areas.
Match Betting Tip: Free State Cheetahs to win the match – 0.12
Pumas vs Blue Bulls
With games in hand on the sides above them and a points deficit that can be easily overturned, the Blue Bulls look to have the momentum heading into the latter stages of the Currie Cup season. They head to a Pumas side that are always dangerous in any game they play but look to be a little downbeat after a series of tight defeats. With plenty to play for this promises to be a real hum-dinger at the Mbombela Stadium.
Having only won 1 game from their 5 matches played, the Pumas look resigned to fighting off the wooden spoon this season. Recent tight defeats to Golden Lions and Free State Cheetahs look to have knocked the stuffing out of the Pumas but they are always an attractive side to watch.
Betting Tip: Point Spread – Pumas +12.5 points – 0.70
It feels like a real opportunity for the Blue Bulls who have two games in hand on the teams ahead of them in the Currie Cup league table. Their opening day win over Western Province showed their character but a loss to the Natal Sharks illustrated that they still have work to do this campaign and they will see this as a real opportunity.
Match Betting Tip: Blue Bulls to win the match – 0.12
