Draw Preview

The European clay court swing is firmly up and running and both the ATP and WTA Tours find themselves in Rome, with the prospect of the French Open just around the corner. The Italian Open returns with capacity crowds for the first time since 2019 and it is always one of the most decorated events on both of the respective tours. With the best part of $10 million on offer across both events, the tournament is also one of the most lucrative around, adding an extra edge of spice to proceedings in Rome this week.

ATP Italian Open Outright Betting

With some of the best players in the world in action, it promises to be a week of high-quality tennis in the Italian capital.

Here are some our tips for the ATP title in Rome this week:

Novak Djokovic – 3/1 – With his decision not to be vaccinated for COVID 19 seemingly no longer international news topic number one, Novak Djokovic will be delighted to be concentrating on his tennis. He was edged out by Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid last week, but he is still the man to beat in every event he plays, and he will be bang up for this.

Rafael Nadal – 4/1 – The ‘King of Clay’ will once again be the biggest scalp on the red stuff this season. He too was ousted by Alcaraz in Madrid and whilst he clearly isn’t getting any younger, his win at the Australian Open earlier this year was a timely reminder of just how capable Nadal remains.

Carlos Alcaraz – 5/1 – Teenage Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz has taken the tennis playing world by storm in recent weeks, with title wins in Miami, Barcelona, and Madrid. Clay court is clearly his favoured surface and the only issue he could encounter this week is fatigue following his excellent run.

Alexander Zverev – 6/1 – A superb run to the final in Madrid last week was also thwarted by Carlos Alcaraz but Alexander Zverev has been showing that he is close to finding his best tennis once more in 2022 and clay courts have always brought the best out of the German, making him a decent outside shot here.

Here are some our tips for the WTA title in Rome this week:

Iga Swiatek – 6/4 – Undisputed world number one Iga Swiatek is in the form of her life, and nobody has been able to stop her for months on the WTA Tour. Wins in Miami, Doha and Indian Wells have just underlined her status as the best player on the planet and with her only ever Grand Slam title in having come on clay, she will be tough to stop in Rome this week.

Ons Jabeur – 12/1 – Hard-hitting Tunisian Ons Jabeur made history last week by becoming the first African player to ever win a WTA Tour 1000 event and she should arrive in decent form here in Rome and she represents serious value in the betting.

Maria Sakkari – 14/1 Greek superstar Maria Sakkari is seeded 4h at this event in Rome and should come into the tournament refreshed. Her game is made for clay court tennis, and she has come on leaps and bounds at this level in 2021 and should she pick up some solid opening round wins, she could be difficult to stop.

Paola Badosa – 16/1 – Spaniard Paola Badosa is operating at her highest ever world ranking, and she has emerged as one of the key contenders in every WTA Tour event she plays. Being seeded second in the draw always helps and she should relish the clay court challenges Rome provides.
