Mamelodi Sundowns are after the top spot in the South African Premiership, yet they would need to beat Durban City first and wait for other results. This is why this game creates so much buzz today, and it highlights the entire Matchday 7.
Sundowns are absolute favorites, there’s no debate about that, yet we all know that Betway Premiership often brings big surprises. The guests are in good form and are not coming to Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium with a white flag. Quite the opposite, though, as Durban plays solid football too.
Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Durban City Preview
Mamelodi Sundowns
Sundowns have the chance to leapfrog Sekhukhune into top spot with a victory, depending on other results. It is what makes this game important, as both teams will be eager to make a statement as the title race intensifies.

Sundowns were left frustrated in midweek after a 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants, with them dropping from first place and falling to second. Striker Iqraam Rayners gave them an early lead in the 28th minute, but the defensive error made by Keanu Cupidoโan own goalโcanceled it out and ultimately forced the reigning champions to settle for a point.
Despite the draw, Mamelodi Sundowns remain unbeaten in the league this season, with a record of four wins and three draws. They have scored in six of their seven matches and continue to be a dominant force at home under head coach Miguel Cardoso.
Their attacking play has been fluid and efficient, with at least two goals scored in three of their last four home fixtures. However, there were some problems in the back, and even though Mamelodi allowed only two goals, they need to be better there.
Durban City
Durban City, meanwhile, returned to winning ways on Tuesday, securing a 2-0 victory over Siwelele to snap a three-game winless run. If it weren’t for that, the DC would be placed even higher as they now have 11 points, and the top-placed Sekhukhune 16.
This game instills a sense of fear among their fans due to the previous events and results. The recent record against Sundowns paints a grim picture. The Citizens have lost six of their last seven away games to the Stylish Guys and have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous 15 meetings.
Coach Mandla Ncikazi will need his team to be defensively disciplined and clinical on the counterattack if they are to stand any chance of pulling off an upset. Key players, such as Sipho Mbule and Lindokuhle Mkhonza, must give 100% of their effort; otherwise, Durban won’t have too bright prospects of winning.
Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Durban City Predictions
Mamelodi To Win to Nil
There are good chances to see Mamelodi winning without conceding a goal. After dropping points this mid-week, their defense will have to react, and we expect to see Sundowns ferocious in the back and very, very fierce.
We’ve talked about the problems they experienced in the back, and this would be a perfect chance to clear away all the doubts and shut down the critics. Plus, Durban didn’t score on the past two road trips.
Mamelodi to Score in Both Halves
The fact that they play at home, have an extraordinary attack for the Betway Premiership, and also, knowing that there is a motive to bounce back following a tie against Marumo, forces us to bet on Mamelodi’s powerful performance. And there’s no better market for that than the Sundowns scoring on both halves.
