These are two teams with very different seasons to date. The Joburg Super Kings are in second place on the log with 17 points and are in a great position to claim one of the playoff spots. MI Cape Town is dead last on the log with just six points from six matches. If they are to have any realistic chance of slipping into the playoffs, they need to start winning now.
The Super Kings are in a weird spot with their form. They won their first three matches of the season, but haven’t registered a victory since. They haven’t had much chance to do so, with their fourth and sixth games falling foul of the weather. The only game completed during this stretch was a loss to Saturday’s opponents in Cape Town.
The win over the Super Kings was MICT’s first and only win of the season to date. This was a match reduced to 12 overs due to rain, with MICT winning by four wickets as they chased down a revised target of 123 in the final over. The hope is that this will allow MICT to kick on for the rest of the season, as they have been unlucky in other matches.
One notable near miss for MICT was in Match 10 against the Paarl Royals, where they lost by a single run in one of the best games of the comp so far.
Joburg Super Kings
Richard Gleeson is 23/5 to be the best bowler on show, and he has nine wickets on the season to pace the Super Kings.
Faf du Plessis has been the consistent batsman for the Super Kings. He has 135 runs on the season, and he scored 44 runs in the reverse fixture earlier this month. Du Plessis is 11/2 to be the best bat on show this weekend.
MI Cape Town
Jason Smith was the hero when these two met earlier this season. His 22 runs off of just seven balls provided the punch to see MICT over the line. He is 21/1 to be the best bat here.
A more likely option if you expect MICT to win is Ryan Rickleton. The most consistent bat in the lineup, Rickleton has 204 runs on the campaign and is 21/5 to top score on Saturday.
Best Bets
MICT might have some life in them yet. Some of their stars are rounding into form, and Rickleton’s bat is enough to win any match. I like the away side to pick up the win here and really make some noise as they try to chase down a playoff spot.
Rashid Khan is one of those who started slowly, but at 15/4, I like him to be the leading bowler on Saturday.
