The world will, once again, be gripped by football fever as the 2018 Soccer World Cup kicks off in Russia from 14 June to 15 July. And, while the attention will most definitely be focused on the players, there is no doubt some of the eye-catching footballers’ wives will garner a little attention themselves. Here are the starting XI to check out at this year’s Soccer World Cup.
11 Hot Soccer Babes of the World Cup
1. Shakira
Okay fine, she might not be a wife as such, but she’s Shakira, and she’s adamant she will never get married…but if she were to, Gerard Pique is the one. The Columbian singer, songwriter and dancer met her Spanish footballer while waka waka-ring her way through the South African-hosted Soccer World Cup back in 2010. The couple share a romantic life together in Spain and, who knows, maybe Shakira will one day outgrow the idea of marriage as ‘claustrophobic’.
2. Pilar Rubio
Spanish reporter, television presenter and actress, Pilar Rubio, is married to Sergio Ramos who will be joining the Spanish squad at the World Cup. The gorgeous pair have three sons together – Sergio, Marco and Alejandro – the youngest born only last month.
3. Lorelei Taron
A love story for the books, the stunning Argentinian singer, Lorelei Taron, met her future husband, Radamel Falcao, at church when she was just 16 years old. Falcao, a Colombian footballer, managed to woo his beloved and the two were married three years later. They have two daughters, Dominique and Desiree, who the two are devoted to when not focusing on their demanding careers.
4. Jesica Sterling
Fellow Colombian footballer, David Ospina, married the gorgeous Colombian model, Jesica Sterling, back in 2012. These two were also high school sweethearts and have a daughter, Dulce Maria, and son, Maximiliano, together.
5. Sofia Balbi
While he’s had to contend with some bad press in the past, Luis ‘the biter’ Suarez has managed to balance this with a glowing personal life having married his own teenage love, Sofia Balbi. The Uruguayan footballer and wife have two children together, and while they have a dream life now, it didn’t start out that way. Suarez and Balbi met when he was a street sweeper in Uruguay and she encouraged him to become a footballer. Things worked out well for the pair, who now live a very privileged life.
6. Antonello Roccuzzo
No list is complete without the wife of the world’s greatest footballer. The wife of Argentinian footballer, Lionel ‘Leo’ Messi, Antonello Roccuzzu is also Argentinian born but of Italian descent. Messi and the model were engaged from 2008, finally marrying in 2013. The couple has two sons- Thiago and Mateo – with a third baby on the way.
7. Anna Ortiz
For six years, Anna Ortiz has been the wife of Spanish football legend, Andres Iniesta, who will most likely be heading to his final Soccer World Cup. The pair tied the knot one week after Iniesta’s team took home the EUFA European Championship in 2012 – not a bad week for Iniesta.
8. Alice Campello
At only 23 years old, she’s certainly one of the younger footballer wives. Italian model, Alice Campello married her love, Spanish player, Alvaro Morata, last year. Campello has more than 1.3 million Instagram followers as well as her own designer label, Arvil.
9. Lisa Muller
Wife of German footballer, Thomas Muller, the gorgeous Lisa is a far cry from the typical footballer wife…although she is a model. She’s also a semi-professional horse rider and is passionate about her canine friends. The couple met when they were both aged 17 and wed at only 20, three years later in 2009.
10. Andriani Michael
The stunning daughter of Chelsea football scout and barber, Michael Michael, Andriani Michael met her betrothed – English footballer, Jack Wilshere – in 2015 and the pair got engaged on her 25th birthday last year. The two tied the knot later that year during a three-day wedding bash in Italy where singing legend, Craig David performed.
11. Camille Tytgat
French player, Raphael Varane, married fellow patriot, Camille Tytgat, in June 2015 having met and courted as teens. While the two have managed to keep their relationship low-key, the mother-of-one was seen cheering him at the previous World Cup and will no doubt return for the 2018 edition.
