2022 FIFA World Cup Bet Preview
Groups E – H
Tournament Preview
The much maligned World Cup in Qatar is finally due to get underway, with 32 of the world’s biggest teams converging on the Middle East, looking to claim the biggest prize in football. The usual mix of big names and upstarts will battle it out over the course of the 28 days of action, with the November/December scheduling sure to have an impact on the destination of the trophy.
France won the title back in 2018 and look well placed again to attempt to retain their trophy whilst the usual suspects of Brazil, Argentina and Germany will all fancy their chances in Qatar.
Here is a rundown of all teams playing in Groups E to H:
Group E
Country | Odds to progress from group | Odds to win the World Cup |
Spain | 1/10 | 9/1 |
Costa Rica | 8/1 | 500/1 |
Germany | 1/8 | 11/1 |
Japan | 6/1 | 250/1 |
Two of the last three World Cup winners find themselves in Group E, with 2010 champions Spain and 2014 winners Germany doing battle. Both sides will start as strong favourites to progress from what looks to be a lopsided group. Japan reached the knockout stages in Russia in 2018, whilst Costa Rica have plenty of big tournament experience, but progression could be a tall order for both sides here.
Group F
Country | Odds to progress from group | Odds to win the World Cup |
Belgium | 1/6 | 16/1 |
Canada | 11/1 | 300/1 |
Croatia | 2/5 | 40/1 |
Morocco | 3/1 | 200/1 |
Once again, the European heavyweights in Group F will be the hot favourites for progression to the knockout stages. Belgium finished 3rd at the last World Cup and how they would love to go one better with their ‘Golden Generation’, whilst 2018 runners-up Croatia have serious stock when it comes to World Cup football. Morocco are a relative unknown quantity at the 2022 World Cup, and they have the power to surprise, whilst Canada are breaking new ground in reaching their first ever World Cup Finals.
Group G
Country | Odds to progress from group | Odds to win the World Cup |
Brazil | 1/20 | 5/1 |
Cameroon | 4/1 | 250/1 |
Serbia | 2/1 | 75/1 |
Switzerland | 19/20 | 60/1 |
Five-time winners Brazil headline a relatively open looking Group G and as the tournament favourites, they could be tough to stop as they chase their first World Cup since 2002. Switzerland are a side showing steady progression and they will be eager to reach the knockout stages, whilst Serbia beat off lots of good sides in qualifying to reach the World Cup. Cameroon are capable of upsetting the apple cart too, making Group G one of the most interesting pools.
Group H
Country | Odds to progress from group | Odds to win the World Cup |
Ghana | 3/1 | 150/1 |
Portugal | 1/3 | 18/1 |
South Korea | 5/2 | 200/1 |
Uruguay | 13/20 | 40/1 |
Very few groups look to be as open as Group H, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal the headline act. The World Cup remains elusive for Portugal, but they are an exciting side and progressing from Group H could open up a world of opportunity for them. Uruguay are one of the most enigmatic sides in World Cup football and they can never be discarded, whilst the same can be said about Ghana. South Korea have plenty of high quality players too, making Group H one of the most intriguing.
