2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Bet Preview
Dates: Thursday 20th July – Sunday 20th August 2023
The 32 best women’s football teams on the planet head down under to Australia and New Zealand for what is arguably the most highly anticipated FIFA Women’s World Cup in the history of the game. Globally, the profile of women’s football has developed exponentially in recent years and the coverage and scrutiny on all of the teams involved has reached fever pitch. Hosts Australia and New Zealand are touted by many as two sides that could enjoy a good tournament, but the USA have been the dominant force in women’s football in recent times, last winning the FIFA World Cup in emphatic style in France, back in 2019.
Elsewhere, the European contingent will be led by Euro 2022 winners England, whilst Germany, France and Spain could find themselves in the mix too.
Here are our tips for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Winner and the Top Scorer:
2023 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP WINNER
Four-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champions USA are once again the hot favourites for glory in 2023. It truly has been a decade of dominance for the United States, who cruised to victory in Canada back in 2015 and in France in 2019 and there have only been three women’s World Cup finals in the history of the competition that haven’t included the USA. Whilst the competition in women’s football is getting stronger, the USA remain the team to beat here in Australia and New Zealand.
NEXT BEST BET – ENGLAND – 11/2
The 2023 World Cup has seemed like the end goal for England’s Lionesses for a few years now and they will be hoping to put on a show here in Australia and New Zealand. They have finished 3rd and 4th in the last two World Cups, before breaking their major tournament duck in 2022, winning the European Championships on home soil. Of course, the World Cup is a step up, but they look to have a decent group initially and confidence in the camp should be high.
Despite being a country that is lacking in FIFA Women’s World Cup history, Spain are hotly tipped to go well here in Australia and New Zealand. A huge part of that is due to the strength of the domestic game in Spain, with Barcelona winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League once again in 2023 and many of their players making the squad for the World Cup. With an abundance of talent and a relative lack of public pressure outside of their homeland, Spain should be one to keep an eye on here.
TOP GOALSCORER
BEST BET – SOPHIA SMITH – USA – 5/2
Having long been tipped for the very top, Sophia Smith has a chance to etch her name into footballing history at the 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup. The USA will be the hot favourites to go all the way and if the Portland Thorns forward hits form, she is the top pick to win the Golden Boot at the end of the competition.
OUTSIDE PICK – BETH ENGLAND – ENGLAND – 7/1
Tottenham striker Beth England has been on the periphery at international level for a few seasons but now finds herself as very much the first choice striker for the Lionesses. Her clinical finishing is what sets her apart and she will be looking to propel England to glory once more here in Australia and New Zealand.
OUTSIDE PICK – SAM KERR – AUSTRALIA – 14/1
As one of the most outstanding performers in women’s football worldwide, Sam Kerr will be desperate to put on a show in front of her home fans here at the 2023 FIFA World Cup. Whilst the Australian squad isn’t perhaps as strong as some others, the Matildas still have a very decent side and if Kerr gets going, they could go deep with home advantage.
