2023 Formula 1 – Race 12: Hungarian Grand Prix
Venue: Hungaroring, Hungary.
Race Date: 23rd July 2023
Race Preview
With Max Verstappen very much in the ascendency in the Formula 1 World Championship race for the title, the Hungarian Grand Prix gives all the teams and their drivers the chance to build some momentum during the middle weeks of the season. The chasing pack in the title race will all be looking to put some points on the board, with the likes of Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton all threatening at times this season, without managing to put any serious pressure on Max Verstappen at the top of the tree.

Race Winner
In race twelve of the 2023 Formula 1 season, all of the biggest names on the grid will be battling for supremacy here at the Hungaroring:
The 2023 F1 season has been all about Max Verstappen and every single race currently seems to be a formality for the Dutchman. Wins in Austria and Great Britain in his last two outings have only served to illustrate his complete dominance over the rest of the field and he looks to be uncatchable already in the race for the title. Lewis Hamilton does find himself on pole here in Hungary, something Verstappen will need to overcome but he is more than capable of catching anybody at the moment.
With his last race win coming back in 2021, Lewis Hamilton looks more determined than ever to prove his worth on the F1 grid. The problems the 7-time world champion has endured this term have been well documented and Mercedes look to be some way off the Red Bull contingent at the half way point of the campaign. Sat in pole position, Hamilton has a complete free hit here and whilst Verstappen should win the race, how he would love to upset the party here in Hungary.
Something seems to have clicked for Lando Norris at McLaren in recent weeks and he is a force to be reckoned with currently. With pace to burn and a fierce driving attitude, the young Brit is very much coming of age in the 2023 season, and he looks set to bag a race win sooner rather than later. The big challenge for Norris is ensuring that this spell of form is not fleeting, with podiums at the Austrian and British Grand Prix’s and if he brings that form to Hungary, he’ll be in contention.
Top Six Finish
Race 12 of the season here at the Hungaroring presents an opportunity for every driver to keep putting points on the board:
Another man clicking into gear somewhat is Charles Leclerc, who has battled away with his Ferrari all season but now looks to have a grip on it. A race win remains elusive, which would be a serious step in the right direction but with some strong qualifying showings and a few top 6’s of late, he will more than fancy his chances of mixing it with the big boys here in Hungary.
Whilst Lando Norris has been bagging all the plaudits for McLaren of late, the form of Australian Oscar Piastri is in danger of going under the radar. The rookie has been in sublime form since McLaren made a few tweaks to their car and he looks every bit the exciting prospect they signed him to be. Of course, he continues to play second fiddle to team mate Lando Norris but if he gets a crack at top 6 in Hungary, he’ll look to bag it.
Former world champion Fernando Alonso has been rolling back the years this season for Alpine and his performances and speed have matched some of the very best on the track. Whilst getting over the line on a podium place looks a big ask, finishing in the top six is well within his grasp and should it get chaotic up ahead of him, he could cash in and put more points on the board this weekend.
