The exciting action on the MotoGP World Championship schedule continues this weekend, as the ninth race of the season will take place at Sachsenring in Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The German Grand Prix promises to be an enthralling race in prospect, but which driver will be able to pick up important points in the battle for positions in the championship standings?
Race Information
The German Grand Prix was first staged back in 1925, and it has been part of the MotoGP schedule throughout history. It has been contested at Sachsenring in Hohenstein-Ernstthal since 1998, with the only exception coming in 2020 when the race was cancelled due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The field will compete around 13 corners of the circuit, with the incredibly difficult opening sectors seeing ten challenging corners taken before the high speed areas make up turns eleven, 12 and 13.

As one of the most historic races on the schedule, there have been some famous winners of the race throughout history. Honda is by far and away the most successful team in history, having landed a staggering 61 victories since 1952.
Meanwhile, it has also been a race that Giacomo Agostini had dominated throughout his career, claiming an amazing 13 victories. The Italian riders most recent victory was recorded in 1976. Marc Marquez could be an interesting contender this weekend, as he chases a 12th victory overall, and a ninth win in MotoGP, which is already a record in the competition.
Leading Contenders
It has been a reliable start to the season for the BetXchange favorite to win the championship, as Francesco Bagnaia has cut the advantage at the top of the standings in recent months after winning each of the last three races.
He was once again at his dominant best for the Ducati Lenovo Team in the Netherlands a few weeks back, claiming the race win and fastest lap after starting on pole. That was the second race in which he had won the race with the fastest lap.
Despite his winning sequence, Bagnaia remains second in the standings, as he sits ten points behind Jorge Martin. The Spanish star has finished second in two of the last three races, and has only finished off the podium on two occasions so far this season.
However, his most recent win was achieved in the French Grand Prix. Marc Marquez could be an interesting dark horse contender this weekend based on his dominant record in the German Grand Prix. The Spanish star is still searching for his first win of the season, but he has achieved podium finishes in three of the last five races.
German Grand Prix Prediction
This could be a typically wide-open renewal of the German Grand Prix on the MotoGP schedule this weekend, and cases can be made for a number of riders. However, we are prepared to side with Enea Bastianini for the Ducati Lenovo Team. The Italian has achieved four podium finishes this season, and has finished outside of the top five on just one occasion. That consistency could be rewarded this weekend.
