After a much-needed summer break, Formula One is back in action this weekend with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort – and the betting market is heating up as the title fight between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris resumes. Usually, following any pause, it’s very important to restart well, given the momentum and swing that can carry into the remaining part of the season.

Verstappen Back on Home Soil
Verstappen dominated at Zandvoort when the race returned to the calendar in 2021, winning three straight, but when looking at the current form, the champ is in a bad spot. It’s a good thing for him that the break happened now, because he had enough time to regroup and pull himself together.
McLaren Battle Heats Up

Piastri leads the championship on 284 points, just ahead of Norris on 275. Though in terms of momentum, Norris took victory in Budapest before the break and famously crushed the field here last year with a dominant 20-second win.
Piastri remains the bookmakers’ favorite for the title, largely thanks to his consistency, but Norris has shown flashes of brilliance. Therefore, every point will matter from here on.
Hamilton Looking for Momentum
Lewis Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari has been challenging. A disappointing run at the Hungaroring, where he couldn’t go through Q2, he was more than frustrated. Instead of making a step forward, he suffered a huge setback.
The break may have been just what he needed. With Monza looming next week, Hamilton will be eager to turn things around—and a strong result in Zandvoort could spark that comeback.
As for his teammate Charles Leclerc, he too showed signs of improvement, yet not a shred of consistency.
Weather Could Shake Things Up
Storms are in the forecast for the weekend, which could make qualifying unpredictable and the race chaotic. Zandvoort is notoriously tricky for overtaking, so mixed conditions and safety cars could provide an opportunity for a surprise winner. With all the nasty weather coming and unstable conditions, we decided to look for surprises here. And the one that crossed our minds first was George Russell reaching the podium. He enjoys rainy races, and although he hasn’t had particularly great success in the past (due to his vehicle), he could be the one to reach the podium at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix. Mercedes is solid; they did some upgrades during the break, and the vehicle should be ready for tough challenges. Russell already is, so it’s worth trying this one.
