The Toronto Raptors opened the NBA Finals series in the best possible way. Nick Nurse’s team defeated the two-time defending champs Golden State Warriors with 118-109.
It was a tough and intense match during which the home team constantly had a lead. After a close first half, the Raptors pulled away to a safe distance in the third quarter and managed to seal a win.
The Warriors couldn’t find a proper answer for Toronto’s offensive game, and also, Golden State was denied from having their usual quick bursts which often solved matches.
Toronto was much better from inside the paint and near the same, as they had Pascal Siakam and Marc Gasol in charge of taking care of the business there. Kawhi Leonard had different assignments. The Claw forced many defensive fouls which disturbed the Warriors’ plans.
At the end of the night, Siakam had 32 points along with 8 boards, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. His iso game was excellent. Kawhi Leonard dropped 23 points, and like Siakam had 8 rebounds and 5 dimes.
Marc Gasol finished the contest with 20 buckets and 7 boards, and the Spanish center was the X-factor on the court. Fred VanVleet added 15 points off the bench.
On the other side, Stephen Curry was at his usual level for Golden State, with 34 points and 5 boards and assists apiece. Steph was perfect from the free throw line by making all of his 14 shots.
Klay Thompson had 21 buckets, while Draymond Green recorded a triple-double with 10 points, rebounds and assists. No other players from the Warriors’ team have reached the 10 point mark.
