Venue: TPC Craig Ranch, Texas.
Dates: Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th May 2022
Tournament Preview
One of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour returns as the AT&T Byron Nelson returns in 2022. Like many of the big name tournaments over the past couple of years, the Byron Nelson took place without fans in 2021, but it looks to be back and raring to go in 2022. Named in honour of one of the greatest ever players to have graced the game, the list of winning alumni at the Byron Nelson is one of the best in the business with Nelson himself, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Tiger Woods having all won the event previously. With over $8 million in the prize pot too, the stakes could not be higher in Texas this week.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
Plenty of the biggest names on the PGA Tour feature here at TPC Craig Ranch and they will be keen to get their hands on some silverware here:-
World number one and current Masters champion Scottie Scheffler is the man to beat on the PGA Tour currently and he will relish the playing conditions here in Texas.
By his own incredibly high standards, Justin Thomas is going through somewhat of a dry patch in terms of his tournament wins and he will be out to get a ‘W’ on the board here.
After picking up a couple of tournament wins over the past couple of seasons, Jordan Spieth looks to be a man rekindling his best form once more and he should be very much in the mix this weekend.
Four-time major winner and former runner up at this event Brooks Koepka looks to be finding his best form once more in 2022 and he could take some stopping in this event.
Australian former world number one Jason Day has always played well at this event and will be looking to add another Byron Nelson to his collection, after last winning the tournament in 2010.
1st Round Leader
The whole field here in Texas will believe they can get off to a strong start and if they do so they could set themselves up for the week ahead:
Two-time major winner Dustin Johnson has endured a relatively quiet 12 months or so on tour but if he finds his best game, very few can live with him in the scoring department.
Fresh off some excellent showings in recent weeks, few would bet against young American Will Zalatoris swinging with renewed vigour from the off here at TPC Craig Ranch.
Australian Marc Leishman finished second at this event back in 2018 and with a game seemingly tailor-made for this course, he could get off to a fast start this week.
Top Ten Finish
With so many quality players assembled here at TPC Craig Ranch, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday afternoon:-
2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama is always there or thereabouts in the biggest events on tour, and he will relish the going this week.
2018 champion Aaron Wise is an accomplished ball striker and with a course and distance win under his belt, he could be in contention at the business end of proceedings.
Experienced American was on top form at the WGC World Matchplay last month and on a course that should suit his game, he could be in the mix come Sunday afternoon.
