Coppa Italia Final: Juventus VS Inter Milan

Venue: Stadio Olimpico, Rome
Race Date: 11 May 2022

Match Preview

Juventus and Inter meet on Wednesday in Rome in the final of the 2022 Coppa Italia. Each team was dominant in their semi-final wins and this should be a great contest between a pair of clubs that have had generally successful seasons.

Juventus reached this stage by sweeping past Sampdoria 4-1 in the Round of 16. This was followed by their closest game in the latter rounds of the tournament as they snuck past Sassuolo 2-1 at the quarter-final stage. Fiorentina posed a decent challenge in the semi-final. The first leg in Florence was a tight affair with Juve doing enough to win 1-0. The second leg was a more comfortable evening, with Juve dominant in a 2-0 win for a 3-0 aggregate victory.

Inter had more trouble with their Round of 16 game. They beat Empoli 3-2 at home in a match that went to extra time. They then had a relatively easy win over Europa League finalists, Roma, in the quarter-final before turning their focus to age-old foes AC Milan in their semi-final. The first leg was a tight affair, with the match finishing and 0-0 and setting up a winner take all clash in the second leg. Inter went ahead after just four minutes and Lautaro Martinez was the star of their 3-0 win as he bagged a brace of goals.

Betting Preview

Juventus need this more than Inter in a lot of ways. Inter – currently second in Serie A – are still in contention to win the title. Juve, however, is out of the running in fourth and this is their last chance to win silverware this term. A win in this clash would also extend their record number of victories in the Coppa Italia to 15.

If Inter were able to win the Derby d’italia then they would still be on for a domestic double. This would be the first time they were able to achieve that feat – assuming that they also go on to win the league by tracking down AC Milan – since Jose Mourinho’s men did so in 2009/10.

Juventus have options upfront here. Dusan Vlahovic seems certain to start, with Paula Dybala widely expected to be the man that joins him in the attack. This means that Alvaro Morata would start on the bench. Weston McKennie won’t make it back in time for this one, but Manuel Locatelli is available for selection after missing the last five games for the Old Lady.

Martinez is going to be the main threat with the Argentinian being in outstanding form. There are options in attack alongside Martinez. Any one of Alexis Sanchez, Joaquin Correa, and Edin Dzeko could be chosen to start with the other two providing impact later in the game.

Juventus might need to win in order to salvage a season without a trophy, but Inter is simply the better team. Martinez is banging in goals for fun and he will get at least one in this match as Inter set themselves up for the double with a victory at 13/10 with BetXchange.
