The English Premier League opening round starts on Friday night at Selhurst Park, where Crystal Palace hosts Arsenal. The fans across the world couldn’t wait for the competition to start because the EPL glamour is by far the biggest of all the football leagues.
Here is your preview of game week one.
Crystal Palace VS Arsenal
Palace has been solid during the pre-season period, and they started the preparations way before all other teams. Meanwhile, Arsenal were fabulous, especially Gabriel Jesus, who took this team to another level. The Brazilian’s arrival propelled the Gunners to a new dimension, and from what we saw during these last four weeks, this unit will be ferocious.
Of course, Palace is not to be underestimated, but still, our pick here would be Arsenal. After seeing them dismantle Seville and Chelsea, plus defeating a few other units, it would be unwise to make some other bet. As said, Jesus really makes them better.
The odds on the Gunners’ victory are very good, and the risk/profit ratio, in this case, is excellent. Therefore, we are after Arsenal here.
Fulham VS Liverpool
The Reds dismantled Manchester City in the Community Shield, showing everyone that they still are one of the best teams in Europe. Those who had doubts about that in the first place are now silent. Darwin Nunez adapted to the new environment superbly and is slowly starting to take over Liverpool’s attack.
As for Fulham, the Cottagers decided not to chase some high-cost signings but did the summer transfer window rationally so far. The backbone of the team are guys who played together in the Championship, with the leader being a fantastic Serbian striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Even though Mitrovic broke all the possible scoring records last year, we doubt that he and the hosts can hurt the Reds, who will take plenty of confidence into this game following a win over City this weekend.
Tottenham VS Southampton
Antonio Conte had time to build a team which suits his style of play, which is why we expect a lot from Spurs this year. The team from North London has a lot of very good players and they are a team worthy of a top-four place at the end of the year.
On the other side, Southampton was unchanged during the transfer window, and we didn’t see some notable activity. The Saints had a switch in ownership last season.
Tottenham should win this match without particular trouble. Southampton is a hard-working side but doesn’t have the firepower to match Spurs.
Leicester VS Brentford
The Foxes and the Bees play very exciting football with many goals involved. We’ve seen them in entertaining games during the 2021/22 season and expect both units to keep the same pace in the upcoming campaign.
Both of their head-to-head meetings last season ended in Leicester’s favour with the same result, 2-1. So, there were goals on both ends and over 2.5 scores. During the pre-season, these clubs were defensively well structured against teams with strong attacks, forcing Leicester or Brentford to play attractive football.
In the end, our pick here is over 2.5 goals and both teams to score, the odds are most definitely making this one a must-try.
