Euro 2020: Finland vs Russia, Turkey vs Wales & Italy vs Switzerland

With all 24 sides having played their opening games, European Championship fever is sweeping across the continent. The tournament was overshadowed on Saturday by the alarming incident involving Christian Eriksen but with the Dane seemingly on the mend, attention now turns to the race to reach the last 16. Only 8 sides are eliminated at the group stage in Euro 2020, giving hope to every side that they could progress from their respective group.

Group B

Finland vs Russia

Having been caught up in the incident involving Christian Eriksen on Saturday, Finland showed real character to pick up a potentially crucial win against Denmark. Playing in their first ever major tournament is giving the Finns a real sense of freedom at Euro 2020 and they will be looking to go for it again here.


Russia suffered a chastening opening day defeat to Belgium and now look to be under pressure to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2020. They are a very unpredictable side but in home conditions they are often tough to beat too.

Neither side is known for playing free-flowing football, but this could be an open game in Saint Petersburg.

Turkey vs Wales

It was a tough evening for Turkey last Friday night as they succumbed 3-0 to Italy in Rome, in a result that now gives them a mountain to climb in terms of qualifying for the last 16. They will be eager to bounce back quickly here in Baku.


Euro 2016 semi-finalists Wales will be looking to put their off-field problems behind them and build on their opening day point against Switzerland. They notoriously enjoy tournament football and could prove difficult to beat again here.

Not losing will be the priority for both sides here and it could be a turgid encounter in Baku.

Roberto Mancini has his Italian side purring, and the Azzurri are starting to look like a side capable of going all the way at Euro 2020. They steam rolled Turkey on Friday night and they will be looking for a repeat performance in Rome here.


The Swiss camp may reflect on Saturday’s draw with Wales as a missed opportunity and they will be desperate to keep putting points on the board here. This will be their most difficult task in the group and coming through unscathed in this one could give them a shot of reaching the last 16.

Italy don’t concede too many goals and they will be keen to keep Switzerland out from the off here.
