The second race weekend in quick succession will see drivers compete at Monza this Sunday, as an interesting battle at the top of the Drivers’ standings appears to be taking shape. Red Bull’s problems mounted at the recent Dutch Grand Prix, as McLaren seized the initiative in the race for the Constructors’ Championship.
A second win in a row for Lando Norris this weekend could spark worry that Max Verstappen’s stranglehold on the world title could be under threat. You can find out more about the Italian Grand Prix here, including the latest odds and picks.
Event Information
The Italian Grand Prix is the fifth oldest race on the F1 schedule, as it was first staged in 1921. It has been staged at the Monza Circuit since 1981, and it will be competed at the track until at least 2025. Drivers will complete 53 laps of the 5.793 km circuit this weekend to make up the 306.72 km race distance.
A total of eleven corners will be taken by the drivers, with two DRS zones available for overtaking. The lap record is currently held by Rubens Barrichello, while Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are tied for the most race wins.
Italian Grand Prix Odds
Lando Norris will be a solid favourite at the top of the betting this weekend, with the McLaren driver currently priced up at 21/20 with BetXchange. Max Verstappen is available at his biggest price for a race win so far this season at 3/1. Oscar Piastri is next in the betting at 27/4, while Ferrari are expected to enjoy a solid home race with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz priced up at respective prices of 23/2 and 31/2.
Race Preview
The pressure would have increased on Max Verstappen following last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, as the reigning world champion saw his advantage at the top of the standings cut drastically following an excellent drive by Lando Norris.
The Brit was sensational in Verstappen’s home race, putting 20 seconds between himself and the reigning world champion despite stuttering at the start of the Grand Prix. His victory has also handed the advantage to McLaren in the race for the Constructors’ Championship, as the team now trails the defending champions by just 20 points.
That will mean that further questions will be asked of Sergio Perez this weekend, as the Mexican finished back in sixth in the Netherlands. There will also be huge expectations of the Ferrari team in one of their two home races at Monza this weekend.
Charles Leclerc has returned to form with back-to-back podium finishes in Belgium and the Netherlands, but the adoring home fans will be dreaming of a win this weekend. Mercedes will be hoping for better race pace this weekend, as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell could only finish in eighth and seventh, respectively, last weekend.
Italian Grand Prix Prediction
This could be the weekend where the title race is thrown wide open in Formula 1. Lando Norris looks hard to overlook following his dominant display in the Netherlands, and we could also see at least one Ferrari finishing on the podium in the team’s home race.
