Dates: Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th June 2022
Tournament Preview
The PGA Tour continues in earnest, with attention now turning towards the remaining majors on the calendar in 2022. Tournaments have a relatively normal look to them on the PGA Tour once more in 2022 and with thousands of fans set to be in attendance, the Memorial remains one of the biggest events on the tour. First played nearly 50 years ago, the Memorial Tournament is one of the only events on the tour that is purely invitational and with over $9 million in the prize purse, it is hugely lucrative for all the players in the field. Previous winners of the event include Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, and Ernie Els – testament to the prestige of the competition.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
Picking a winner from the vast field assembled at the Muirfield Golf Village could be somewhat of a lottery but here are our top 5 picks:-
2020 Memorial champion Jon Rahm has been the model of consistency on the PGA Tour for the past few seasons and he looks to be one of the men leading the field this weekend.
Despite a relatively bleak spell, Rory McIlroy is always good value in any event he plays and if he can bring his A-game here, he could be tough to stop.
Defending Memorial champion Patrick Cantlay continues to shoot low rounds every weekend on the PGA Tour, and he enjoys the playing conditions at the Muirfield Golf Village course.
American serial major winner Jordan Spieth is a man in form, and he could be a shrewd pick in favourable conditions this weekend.
Having been edged out in a play off at this event last year, Collin Morikawa will be desperate to go one better, having not necessarily played his best stuff over the past couple of months.
1st Round Leader
The PGA Tour never fails to provide drama and this year’s Memorial Tournament promises to be no different.
Here are three punts at 1st round leader after Thursday’s action:-
Emerging Norwegian Viktor Hovland has come of age in the past couple of seasons on the PGA tour and he looks to be in the form of his career so far.
Irishman Shane Lowry fleets in and out of form on the PGA Tour but when he is on a hot streak, he can be difficult to stop.
American Daniel Berger has been in superb nick of late and with his game looking solid, he is a real contender to get off to a flying start this weekend.
Top 10 Finish
The Memorial Tournament is one of the ultimate tests for any golfer and there are plenty of players that have had experience at going the distance in this year’s field:-
American Xander Schauffele has been knocking at the door at the top of the world game for a while and he may well be in the mix come Sunday.
‘Captain America’ Patrick Reed is always up for the battle in the big events, and he could be a player that goes under the radar in Ohio this weekend.
Taiwanese player C.T Pan is very capable of scoring low and should he find his best game here at the Muirfield Golf Course, a top 10 finish is certainly not out of the question.
