Manchester City and Liverpool bring a super derby this Saturday, with the two teams opening the 13th round of the English Premier League. These are currently the top two teams in the standings and this particular meeting could have a great impact on the final standings.

Whenever City and Liverpool have faced each other in recent years, spectators have been treated with a flamboyant football. These two crews very well know each other’s gameplay, leaving no secrets on the field. The same goes for their esteemed managers, whose rivalry is characterized by true respect without a trace of tension.

Title Rivalry

The only team who managed to interrupt City’s reign in the previous few years was Liverpool, who had a masterful season back when COVID pandemic broke out. A year after that, the Reds and the Citizens had a tight battle until the last round, but Guardiola’s machinery eventually ended on the top spot, adding another piece of silverware to its collection.

Liverpool was not a contender in the previous campaign, because of an unreal number of injuries and the fact that Jurgen Klopp decided to make certain changes to the roster, practically rebuilding the team. City was ruthless and even though Arsenal stayed ahead of them for so long, there was no way for the Gunners to resist the pressure of the champs, who would eventually win the Treble.

No matter what many believe, there has been a rivalry between the Reds and the Citizens in the past five years, because these two teams presented the best of the best from the Premiership, not only on the domestic turf but also in Europe. The only reason why the hype isn’t bigger is the fact that both managers and the players nourish sportsmanship and chivalry, and these days, that isn’t interesting because everyone looks for vulgar and rude conflicts.

Manchester City vs. Liverpool Current Form

The Citizens have been ferocious so far. They are the best attack in the league, with 32 goals in 12 events and with nine victories, one draw, and two losses. Liverpool is one step behind, having one loss, three ties and, eight triumphs, and only 10 goals conceded, the fewest in the league.

Their games have been more than efficient, and that’s no wonder because both of these crews play flamboyant and ultra-offensive football with plenty of pace, emphasizing the attacks and trying to score as many goals as possible.

We don’t need to mention all the strikers and forwards in both lineups, Haaland, Nunez, Salah, Alvarez, Jota, etc. It’s astonishing to see these names in the same sentence, let alone on the pitch.

In seven matches at home this year, Manchester City is perfect, having all seven triumphs and netting at least two goals on six occasions. Liverpool’s form on the road in the Premiership isn’t shiny at all, with the Reds winning only twice in six road trips with three ties and one loss.

Is Liverpool Capable of Winning at the Etihad?

Etihad has been a stronghold for the Citizens in the past few years. However, if there is a team capable of taking down City in its own house that would be Liverpool. The Reds have no respect towards the rivals, no fear. It’s highly ungrateful to predict the final result of this contest, but we are most certain in high efficiency, that is, at least three goals.
