Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov meet in the headliner of the UFC 190 on Saturday night. The two heavyweights come into this event with multiple wins and a strong motive to triumph because the title match might be on the line here. The UFC insiders suggest that whoever wins this contest might be the future challenger for the heavyweight title. Furthermore, that is already how many analysts see Saturday’s bout, meaning that it has enormous significance.

Like always, BetXChange is going to make a short but thorough preview of the match. That is enough of a reason to stick with us for the next five minutes.

Preview

Gane is undefeated so far, having 8 wins in his pro-MMA career. Three are by KO, three via submission, and two following a decision, and that shows that the French guy is pretty versatile and knows how to end up on the triumphant side.

His last match was against Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and may we add that it was one of the worst so far this year. The entire MMA community awaited to see it, but in the end, it was one mediocre display, with both guys waiting for the other’s mistake and circling the Octagon. But this is a sign of mental power because Gane collected points slowly and thoroughly.

Before this match, Gane KOd, the former heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos, and before that victory, defeated Tanner Boser pretty easily via unanimous decision. The French is a Muay Thai expert, but apart from that, his biggest strength is extreme intelligence inside the Octagon. There aren’t many fighters in the UFC who think quickly and long-term during the bout like Gane.

Alexander Volkov is the former Bellator champion, and even though he is older just one year, Gane has 33 fights more than his rival. He would win the previous two, against Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris, both after second-round TKO.

Even though that might sound impressive (and his performance was really dominant in both), you have to be aware that both rivals are veterans who are way past their peak. In the match before that one, Volkov lost to Curtis Blaydes easily after a unanimous decision.

During his stint in the UFC, Volkov posted one more loss, against Derrick lewis at the UFC 229, and that was a tragic one for the Russian. He was seconds away from the victory once Lewis threw a desperate punch but hit the target, sending Volkov in the la-la-land.

The Russian is a kickboxer, a very decent one with a long reach and extremely powerful strikes. He isn’t very good on the ground, but we have to admit that there has been some improvement in that area in recent times.

Prediction

The safest pick, in this case, is for the fight to go to the distance. Neither Gane nor Volkov are going to be so aggressive or offensive-minded, and there are a few reasons for that. The first is that they have a very nasty opponent on the other side, against whom one slight error leads to a defeat. The second factor is the importance of the match. Whoever wins here will get a shot at the title.
