And then they were two.

Maties secured a home final after they thrashed regional rivals University of Cape Town (UCT Ikeys) while defending champions University of Pretoria (Tuks) showed their class by downing University of Free State (UFS Shimlas) in Bloemfontein.

Maties, who finished the regular season sitting third on the standings, are favourites to lift the trophy because this decider will be played at their home at the Danie Craven Stadium.

University Stellenbosch (Maties) VS University of Pretoria (Tuks)

Intense excitement is building up ahead of the eagerly anticipated Varsity Cup clash between home side Maties and Tuks which will be the 14th FNB Varsity Cup final.

This will also be the eighth Varsity Cup final to take place the Danie Craven Stadium and Maties will be playing in a record 10th Varsity Cup final.

If Maties beat Tuks, they will win a record sixth Varsity Cup title and they will become the third team to finish third on the league table to go on and win the title.

On the other hand, Tuks will be playing in their seventh Varsity Cup final and they have won four of the previous six finals they have played in.

Tuks won three of the previous four Varsity Cup finals between these two sides and those victories came in in 2012, 2013 and 2017.

If Tuks win this match, they will become the first team in Varsity Cup history to finish fourth on the log table to win the title and they will also equal Maties’ record five titles.
