Oscar Piastri has a nice lead over Lando Norris in the F1 title battle. After last week’s tragedy for Norris, when he ended the race earlier than necessary, things have changed heavily in Piastri’s favor.

Now comes the Italian GP and the legendary Monza. Apart from the race background, the tension ahead of this event is emphasized with the current situation in the standings, and also, the fact that this is Ferrari’s backyard.

The way things develop for the Prancing Horse, a win here would be a sensation, but on the other hand, it’s expected.

2025 Italian GP Preview

So the situation in the general standings looks pretty complicated for Norris, who now has to beat Piastri in every race; otherwise, his title dreams might evaporate. The difference between the two is more than a win, and that’s what carries the pressure for the Brit.

Piastri drove perfectly in Zandvoort, making a grand slam (securing the pole, leading the entire race, setting the fastest lap, and winning), indicating that he also knows how to maintain his composure under pressure. This is the first such achievement for a McLaren driver in more than 27 years, and it really makes the Aussie look like a championship-worthy driver. According to F1 betting odds he is the top favorite for the title now.

Max’s Position

On the other hand, the pressure is on Norris now, but not just on the Brit. If Max Verstappen doesn’t do anything flashy in the next race or two, the current champ will be out of the picture for another piece of silverware.

It seems that Red Bull doesn’t have the consistency anymore. Verstappen has speed, but in the long run, it diminishes as time passes by. We’ve seen him get pole positions or make fastest laps, but overall, there’s something wrong with his vehicle.

Ferrari’s MUST WIN

And when talking about pressure, Monza is Ferrari’s ground. So, not having the highest possible ambitions here comes as an insult to any Ferrari fan. So, a win is a must.

However, the way the Prancing Horse performs is going to be a miracle. Charles Leclerc had a pole in Hungary and nothing after that. He ended 4th. There are four podiums for the Monaco driver this season, but when we add that the entire team is focused on him and that he has a better vehicle than Hamilton, that’s expected.

As for Hamilton, he had some consistency until two races ago when he first ended 12th in Hungary and later on retired in the Netherlands.

Italian GP History

Monza has hosted 75 F1 races, making it the track with the most races in the F1 caravan. The first Formula One event here was back in 1950. It is known as one of the fastest tracks in the caravan, and in 2020, Mercedes’ driver at the time, Lewis Hamilton, posted the quickest lap in the history of the competition, driving at an average speed of 264,36 km/h.

Both Lewis and Michael Schumacher have the most wins among all drivers, with 5 wins each. Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso have two, the same as Charles Leclerc, who won here in 2019 and 2024.

Italian GP Betting Prediction

Since this will be a very fast race, with plenty of straight sequences, maybe there is hope for Ferrari to reach the podium. Also, this is their home, and failing to reach at least that would be a shame and humiliation for the Prancing Horse. So our final pick here would be to see at least one of the two Ferrari drivers on the podium.
