Tennis: Davis Cup Qualifiers Bet Preview

In the second year of reform on the ATP and ITF Tours, the new look Davis Cup gets underway across the globe with 24 countries facing off in what promises to be a fascinating weekend of tennis.

2020 Davis Cup Format

Following a mixes response to the format from players and fans in 2019, the Davis Cup will once again be branded as the World Cup of Tennis in 2020.

The qualifiers feature 24 teams from all over the world, with the 12 winning counties going into the World Group. As a by-product of reaching the semi-finals in 2019, Canada, Russia, Spain & Great Britain have all qualified already for the finals later in the year whilst France and Serbia have also received wild cards. Meaning the 12 winning countries along with the 6 already qualified teams will make up an 18-team competition later in the campaign.

Each Davis Cup fixture is comprised of 5 matches – 4 singles ties and a doubles match and take place over two days (Friday & Saturday). Friday sees two singles matches whilst Saturday begins with doubles match before the reverse singles fixtures with one point awarded for a win – meaning each tie is competed over the best of 5 matches.

2020 Davis Cup Selected Fixture Previews:

Croatia vs India – Zagreb, Croatia

Croatia – 0.12

India – 4.31

2018 Davis Cup champions Croatia are the top seeds heading in 2020 and they will fancy their chances at home to India. With the likes of Marin Cilic and experienced doubles campaigner Mate Pavic in their side, they should have no issues against an Indian side that don’t have any players inside the world’s top 100.

Tie Prediction: Croatia to win – 0.12

Hungary vs Belgium – Debrecen, Hungary

Hungary – 0.22

Belgium – 2.89

Belgium are missing plenty of their big names as they travel to Hungary for what looks to be a tricky clash. The absence of David Goffin could cost the 2017 Davis Cup runners up and with the likes of Marton Fucsovics and Attila Balazs in their ranks, Hungary start as the justified favourites for this one.

Tie Prediction: Hungary to win – 0.22

USA vs Uzbekistan – Honolulu, USA

USA – 0.05

Uzbekistan – 8.35

The American team head to Hawaii in what looks to be a very favourable tie at home to Uzbekistan. Mardy Fish has named a strong squad with Taylor Fritz and the Bryan Brothers sure to do the damage. Denis Istomin is a wily campaigner and he could pose a threat for the Uzbek side, but this should be routine for the USA.

Tie Prediction: USA to win – 0.05

Sweden vs Chile – Stockholm, Sweden

Sweden – 0.16

Chile – 3.66

The Ymer brothers will be integral to Sweden’s hopes in the Davis Cup in 2020 as they look to come of age on the ATP Tour. With Robin Soderling as captain and a packed crowd guaranteed in Stockholm, they could make life very difficult for Nicolas Massu’s inexperienced Chilean side on hard court.

Tie Prediction: Sweden to win – 0.16

Slovakia vs Czech Republic – Bratislava, Slovakia

Slovakia – 0.65

Czech Republic – 1.15

Czech Republic are the seeded team in this fixture but in front of a passionate home crowd, Slovakia will more than fancy their chances. In Norbert Gombos and Andrej Martin, they possess two very solid individuals whilst Filip Polasek is in the world’s top 10 doubles players. Jiri Vesely will be the principal hope for the Czech side, but Slovakia should come through this one.

Tie Prediction: Slovakia to win – 0.65

Australia vs Brazil – Adelaide, Australia

Australia – 0.14

Brazil – 3.99

Lleyton Hewitt’s Australian side look to have an embarrassment of riches currently with John Millman and Jordan Thompson flying the flag for the national team in the absence of Nick Kyrgios and Alex de Minaur. The hard courts in Adelaide should suit them and whilst Brazil look to have a real talent in their ranks in Thiago Seyboth Wild, Australia should have no issues here.

Tie Prediction: Australia to win – 0.14

Colombia vs Argentina – Bogota, Colombia

Colombia – 1.34

Argentina – 0.54

A fascinating tie looks on the cards in South America as Colombia host Argentina. The hosts have the number one ranked doubles pair in the world in Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, a combination that should give them real hope whilst Leonardo Mayer and Juan Ignacio Londero should come through the singles for Argentina – which could just give Gaston Gaudio’s men the advantage.

Tie Prediction: Argentina to win – 0.54
